Perth retailer HEAD2SOLE said it was selling about 500 Labubu boxes a week in May 2025, at A$75 each against an estimated A$25 retail price. That A$50 gap is not proof of A$50 profit: the figures came from the shop’s director, and no costs, audited sales or net earnings were reported.
What Perth’s reported Labubu resale operation looked like
In a PerthNow interview published on 22 May 2025, HEAD2SOLE director Farshad Shirzadi said the shop sold Labubu online and in store, moving about 500 boxes a week. He said, “We sell them for $75 a box, I think retail price is about $25,” describing his estimate of retail price. Those are his reported figures, not independently verified accounts. PerthNow’s report does not disclose the shop’s purchase costs or financial statements.
SmartCompany reported the next day that in-demand boxes at Head2Sole were fetching A$75–A$95, and that one jumbo plush was listed for A$610. It also reported a restock that week. These are historical reported prices; the article does not show that every item sold at its asking price, and they should not be treated as current Perth listings. SmartCompany’s account also notes that another reseller did not provide precise sales figures, so one shop’s claims cannot establish what Perth resellers generally earn.
Why a resale price is not the same as profit
The difference between Shirzadi’s stated A$75 selling price and his estimated A$25 retail price is A$50 per box. It is a comparison of two attributed prices, not a profit calculation. A business’s gross margin depends on what it actually paid to acquire stock; net profit also reflects operating and selling costs.

The reporting does not quantify HEAD2SOLE’s acquisition costs, rent, wages, payment or marketplace fees, taxes, unsold stock, or losses from counterfeit goods. Without those figures, neither weekly profit nor the return on money tied up in inventory can be calculated. The reported volume and prices show the scale of the operation as described by its director, not audited earnings.
How the shop said it judged when to sell
Shirzadi said the shop priced items at what he called the market rate because consumers had difficulty obtaining them. He also said it monitored social media and overseas resale markets to judge when to move on. Those comments describe the retailer’s approach and view of the market; they do not establish a dependable forecasting method or guarantee that a resale premium will last.

He compared the moment with earlier sneaker resale, saying, “We saw this coming…how the Labubu market is now was how in 2020 the resale market for sneakers were, really really high.” It is a seller’s analogy, not evidence that Labubu prices will follow the same path.
What could make the opportunity temporary

Resale premiums can change when supply and access to official stock change. A 2025 CNA/Reuters report focused on China described secondary-market prices falling from earlier peaks and said POP MART reported increasing plush supply tenfold during 2025. That is a company-reported, period-specific supply figure, and the article treated supply growth as one possible explanation for price changes—not proof of a single cause. POP MART executive director and co-COO Sid Si said the company could increase supply to ease demand pressure. The CNA/Reuters report concerns markets outside Perth; its prices and conditions cannot establish local prices or demand.

A reseller may offer immediate access or a particular character, but buyers should compare that convenience with the price and uncertainty involved. A sealed blind box preserves the surprise of the product format; a second-hand or known-character purchase may provide more certainty about what is being bought. The sources documenting the Perth resale moment do not establish current local stock or prices, so check the specific listing rather than relying on May 2025 figures.
- Official retail or restock: May offer a lower price than a resale listing, but availability may be limited. The reviewed reporting does not establish current Perth stock.
- Reseller purchase: Can provide access when retail stock is hard to find, but the premium is not evidence that the item will retain or gain value.
- Blind box or known character: Decide whether the surprise is worth the risk of receiving a character you do not want, or whether paying for a known item better fits your budget.
- Seller and product evidence: Consider whether the seller is identifiable and whether labels and packaging are available to inspect; these checks reduce uncertainty but do not guarantee authenticity.
- Collectible appeal: Treat resale value as uncertain. Supply, attention and access to retail stock can shift, and overseas price movements are not a reliable forecast for Perth.
How to check for counterfeit Labubu dolls
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission warned on 5 November 2025 that counterfeit Labubu plush collectibles, often called “Lafufu” dolls, were increasingly available. It raised concerns about choking hazards from small or detachable parts and possible harmful chemicals. The ACCC says authentic Labubu have exactly nine teeth and advises buyers to examine the seller, labels, packaging, stitching, materials and features. The ACCC’s product-safety guidance is a set of checks, not an authentication guarantee for a particular listing.
Quick Recap
- Check whether small parts can detach, particularly if a young child could access the doll.
- Look for poor stitching, cheap-looking materials, unusually wide ears, or other features that differ from the product’s expected appearance.
- Count the teeth: the ACCC says authentic Labubu have exactly nine.
- Review the seller’s identity and the labels and packaging, rather than relying only on a listing photo or a claimed certificate.
- If you are unsure, the ACCC advises: “If you are unsure, don’t buy them and keep them away from young children.”
