In 2022, Newsmax promoted a climate-skeptic book alongside a three-month trial of its Ultimate Wealth Report newsletter, according to Ars Technica. The reported trial required credit-card details and converted to a paid subscription unless canceled. The reporting did not establish whether the pitch brought in subscribers, and it does not show that the offer is still available.
What the Newsmax promotion offered
John Timmer’s April 25, 2022 report for Ars Technica described a Tulsa newspaper advertisement offering a “free” copy of S. Fred Singer’s Hot Talk, Cold Science: Global Warming’s Unfinished Debate for a shipping-and-handling fee. The ad used phrases including “Global Warming Hoax” and claimed there was “ZERO evidence linking carbon dioxide to climate change”; those were promotional claims, not scientific findings established by the report.
Ars Technica reported that the ad sent readers to ColdScience611.com, which it connected to Newsmax Media, and that the domain redirected to a page on the Ultimate Wealth Report site. The page offered the book among several finance-related books and pamphlets, together with a three-month newsletter trial. According to the article, a customer had to provide credit-card details, and the trial became a paid subscription after three months unless canceled. These are reported terms of the 2022 offer, not verified current subscription terms.
The article identified the book as the third edition of a title first published in 1997; that newer edition appeared in 2021, after Singer’s death, according to the report. It also described a separate Newsmax finance-section column that used similar climate-related rhetoric to promote the “Resolute Wealth Letter,” but linked readers to an Ultimate Wealth Report signup page.

Why the pitch drew scrutiny
The commercial link was the contrast between the advertised free book and the subscription flow attached to it: the book offer served as an entry point to a financial newsletter trial with an automatic paid continuation unless canceled. Ars Technica interpreted the climate-skeptic framing as a subscriber-acquisition hook. The report did not establish the decision-makers’ motive through an interview: Timmer said Tom Luongo declined to discuss how the approach originated, and a Newsmax receptionist did not connect him with a company representative.
As Timmer put it, “the question of why Luongo tried this tack—and whether it’s working—remains a mystery.” The cited reporting offered no evidence showing whether the climate angle increased sign-ups, generated revenue, or otherwise succeeded. It also said there was “nothing illegal about any of this”; that was the reporter’s characterization of the promotion, not a current legal assessment.

Newsmax’s newsletter business today
Newsmax’s undated advertiser-facing page, accessed October 8, 2026, describes more than 4 million email alert subscriptions and close to 1 million monthly readers for paid magazine and newsletter products. The company says it offers paid subscriptions to Newsmax Magazine and more than a dozen specialized health and financial newsletters. Those are Newsmax marketing claims, not independently audited subscriber or readership figures in the cited source.
The company’s broader newsletter business provides commercial context, but the marketing page does not establish that the 2022 book-and-trial offer remains active. Nor does it establish current prices, renewal terms, or cancellation rules for the individual publications. The three-month trial term belongs specifically to Ars Technica’s account of the historical offer; it should not be treated as a current Newsmax offer.
