BBC Sport reported an initial transfer fee of £7 million. The clubs confirmed the move but did not disclose a fee, and the available reports do not establish the final total or any add-ons.
What is known about the transfer fee?
The £7 million figure is a media report of the initial fee, not a price announced by either club. Southampton confirmed Armstrong’s permanent transfer to Wolves, while Wolves announced his signing; neither club’s announcement stated a fee. BBC Sport reported an initial £7 million, so it should not be described as a confirmed total.
The available sources do not confirm whether additional payments apply or what the final amount payable could be. The supported figure is therefore the reported initial fee, not a verified all-in cost.
What else did the clubs confirm?
- Transfer status: Southampton described the move as permanent on 2 February 2026. Southampton’s announcement
- Contract: Wolves said Armstrong signed a three-and-a-half-year deal. Wolves’ announcement
- Southampton record: Southampton said he made 174 appearances and scored 43 goals during his four-and-a-half-year stay. Southampton’s announcement
- Recent scoring: Wolves reported that Armstrong had scored 11 Championship goals in the first half of the 2025–26 campaign. Wolves’ announcement
Why some reports may give a different impression
A report of an initial fee does not necessarily describe every payment in a transfer. Since the club announcements provide no fee and the cited coverage does not establish a final total or add-on schedule, it is not possible to say from these sources that Wolves will pay exactly £7 million overall.
