CBS added $100,000, bringing the combined donation announced for the organization to $350,000.
How the Emmys donation worked
Bargatze hosted the 77th Emmy Awards on September 14, 2025, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The ceremony aired on CBS, according to the Television Academy.
At the start, Bargatze announced a $100,000 pledge tied to the length of winners’ acceptance speeches. Speeches had a 45-second limit: each second over it deducted $1,000, while each second under it added $1,000. By the end of the ceremony, the running tally had reached negative $60,000, according to TheWrap and the Associated Press.
Bargatze then pledged $250,000 personally, and CBS contributed another $100,000. The announced $350,000 total was their combined contribution—not Bargatze’s personal donation alone.

Why Bargatze said he paid more than expected
In a later podcast account, Bargatze said he had not planned to personally contribute $250,000. Once the final amount became clear, he said, he felt he could not refuse. He joked that his only controversial move was that “the Boys and Girls Club got $350,000,” referring to the combined amount, as E! News reported.
What Boys & Girls Clubs of America said
Lisa Anastasi, the organization’s chief development and external relations officer, called the gift a “generous surprise.” She told the AP the $350,000 would support its programs and the children and teens who attend its Clubs. She also said the moment put the organization’s mission and Club Kids before a national audience.
