The question “How much money do the people on Swamp People make hunting gators?” combines two different things: television pay and hunting revenue. The official HISTORY cast page identifies cast members, including Troy Landry, but does not disclose their compensation or contract terms. Louisiana’s official rules explain how commercial hunting works, not what a particular hunter earns.
What is known about Swamp People cast pay?
The official cast information does not state individual salaries, per-episode rates, or contract terms. Without an on-record disclosure from the production or a cast member, specific online salary claims should be treated as unverified—not as confirmed pay.
That distinction matters because a cast member’s television compensation, if any, is separate from money earned through hunting or related businesses. The official sources available do not establish a combined income figure for any cast member.
How commercial alligator hunting can generate revenue
Louisiana commercial hunting is a regulated opportunity, not a guaranteed paycheck. A hunter needs the appropriate license and access to property or a public-land program, and may harvest only within the quota represented by the tags in their possession. A tag sets a harvest limit; it does not promise that an alligator will be caught, sold, or produce income.

Season, zones, and harvest limits
Louisiana divides commercial hunting into east and west zones. Under the state’s rules, the east zone opens on the last Wednesday in August and the west zone on the first Wednesday in September; both seasons run through December 31. Harvest is permitted from official sunrise to sunset, and a licensed hunter’s daily and season quota equals the number of harvest tags they possess. See the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ alligator hunting rules.
License and access costs
LDWF Licensing lists a $25 resident Alligator Hunter License for commercial hunting. It lists no additional harvest fee for private land. For public lands and lakes, fees vary by program—lottery or commercial bid—and by the agreed value per alligator. Those charges affect the economics of a hunt; they are not payments to the hunter. Details are on LDWF Licensing’s Commercial Licenses page.

The state’s Lottery Alligator Harvest Program is one specific commercial-access option. Successful applicants must buy the $25 resident hunter license and pay $40 per tag; the program page says successful applicants receive three tags for the selected wildlife management area or public lake. Those are participation costs and limits, not an amount earned per alligator.
Why a tag or an alligator’s sale value is not take-home pay
Even if a hunter harvests an alligator, gross proceeds are not the same as net income. The amount ultimately retained may depend on the buyer’s agreed value and on arrangements with landowners, helpers, or other participants, as well as costs. The official pages cited here do not provide a universal sale price or a complete revenue-and-expense ledger, so they cannot support a standard net amount per alligator.

Access also changes the calculation. Private-land commercial hunting has no additional harvest fee listed by LDWF, while public-land and lake fees depend on the program and agreed value. Tag count, access terms, buyer arrangements, and expenses can therefore differ from hunt to hunt.
Commercial and recreational tags are different programs
Louisiana’s recreational lottery season is separate from commercial alligator hunting. The LDWF page says the 2026 recreational season is scheduled for October 1–31, with up to 5,000 resident hunters and two non-transferable tags per awarded zone. It lists a $50 application fee per zone, in addition to license requirements. These recreational tags and fees should not be used to estimate the commercial hunting or television income associated with Swamp People. See the agency’s recreational alligator harvest program information.

What Louisiana’s industry-wide figure does—and does not—mean
LDWF states that Louisiana’s commercial alligator industry contributes more than $250 million annually to the state economy. That is a statewide economic-contribution figure, not the income of an individual hunter, a per-animal payout, or a cast salary. It cannot be used to calculate what someone on the show makes.
What the evidence supports about earnings
- Television compensation: The official cast page does not publish individual pay or contract terms.
- Hunting access: Commercial hunters operate under licenses, property access, tags, quotas, and season rules.
- Revenue: A tag is a limit, not a guaranteed sale or paycheck; public-land fees and private-land terms differ.
- Net income: The cited official sources do not establish a standard sale price or full cost-and-revenue ledger for an individual hunter.
Without a cast member’s or production company’s on-record disclosure, there is no sound basis for assigning a specific salary or total earnings figure to the people on Swamp People.
