What the reported fundraising figure means
Goal reported Beckham’s account of an interview with The Athletic: the ownership group initially thought it needed $12 million to $14 million, then raised $30 million to $40 million over four to five months. Beckham said the club would have been in serious trouble without the funding. The range is his reported description of the group’s fundraising, not an audited figure published by Salford City.

The club’s 8 May 2025 announcement confirmed the takeover and said the new shareholders had committed to invest significantly in the club, team and facilities. It did not state how much was raised or how much each shareholder contributed. Salford City’s announcement therefore supports the investment commitment and ownership change, but not the $30 million to $40 million total.
Is £22.5 million the amount raised?
No. Goal reported that Salford had recorded £22.5 million in losses over seven years. That is a separate figure describing historic losses; it is not the reported rescue fundraising total.

Who was involved in the 2025 takeover?
The May 2025 transition followed a longer change in ownership. The Class of ’92 and Peter Lim took over Salford in 2014, and Beckham joined in 2019. In August 2024, Gary Neville acquired Lim’s stake, with the stated aim of making way for a strategic partner. Beckham and Neville completed the later takeover as part of a new nine-shareholder consortium on 8 May 2025. Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Phil Neville ceased to be shareholders, though they retained roles at the club.
The official announcement named the new shareholders and outlined plans to invest in the club and develop its commercial strategy. BBC Sport reported that Neville’s aim was to drive Salford towards sustainability over the next four to five years. That goal is distinct from the fundraising figure: it describes the intended direction of the club, not a confirmed financial result.
