As of October 5, 2026, a collector-market tracker puts Princess the Bear (Ty style 4300) at a $10 median completed-sale price, based on 288 matched eBay sales. Treat that as a broad reference, not an appraisal: condition, tags and the exact version matter, and the tracker’s observed $0.99–$2,500 range spans very different examples and unusual transactions.
What is a Princess Diana Beanie Baby worth?
Millennial Daydreams reports a $10 median for matched completed sales of Princess the Bear, style 4300, as of October 5, 2026. Its tracker matches eBay sales to the style, removes identifiable lots and mismatched toys, and collapses duplicates. The headline median is weighted by units sold and does not trim outliers, so it is a market snapshot rather than an official Ty appraisal or a guaranteed price for your bear. The tracker’s $0.99–$2,500 observed range is not a realistic promise that an ordinary bear might sell for thousands. It combines different conditions and tag generations, and unusual or misidentified transactions can stretch the range. Recent examples show the spread: one ordinary listed example sold for $4.50 and another for $10.50 on October 5, 2026; examples described as PVC/no-space sold for $32.90 and $39.67 on October 4. Those are individual transactions, not guaranteed prices for similar-looking bears. The sales examples are listed here.
Why do prices vary?
Condition and completeness
Plush condition and the state of the tags affect how closely another sale compares to yours. Check for wear, stains, damage, missing tags or ribbon, and clear photos that show the bear from several angles. Compare single-bear sales with single-bear sales; a lot is not a like-for-like price reference.

Tag, pellet and country details
Collectors distinguish versions by swing-tag generation and spacing, country of manufacture, and pellet type (PVC or PE). TyCollector says its criteria for an early first version include both a no-space swing tag and PVC pellets; it also describes production in China and Indonesia. These are collector-reference details, not a professional authentication. TyCollector’s Princess the Bear reference explains the distinctions.
Variant claims and outliers
A high sale is a reason to check the details, not to assume every bear with a similar label is valuable. The tracker’s Indonesia page, for example, lists an Indonesia/PVC/Canadian-tag example sold for $332.45 on September 21, 2026, while other Indonesia examples sold for $7, $20, $29.99 and $30. A single unusually high transaction does not establish a standard value; verify the variant, condition, authenticity and transaction before using it as a comparison. How to check which version you have
- Identify the toy. Confirm that it is Princess the Bear, Ty style 4300, rather than another Princess-themed toy.
- Inspect the swing tag. Note its generation and whether the spacing is described as “space” or “no-space.” Photograph both sides.
- Read the tush tag. Record the country of manufacture and any other printed details.
- Check the pellets. Record whether a reliable reference or documentation identifies them as PVC or PE. Do not rely on a seller’s claim alone.
- Inspect the bear, ribbon and tags together. TyCollector warns that an authentic bear can be paired with a counterfeit or replacement swing tag or ribbon. Compare detailed photos with reputable collector references.
- Record condition and sale format. Note wear or damage, missing parts, and whether the item is sold individually or in a lot.
These details help find closer price comparisons; they cannot authenticate an individual bear from a general checklist. Common tag misprints are also often advertised as errors without demonstrated evidence of a price premium, according to the market tracker.
How to estimate a sale price
- Search completed sales, not current asking prices. Active listings show what sellers hope to receive, not what buyers paid. Use completed transactions for Princess the Bear rather than other Diana-themed merchandise.
- Match the important details. Compare condition, tag generation and spacing, pellet type, country, and whether tags and ribbon appear original. The closer the match, the more useful the comparison.
- Use several recent sales. Do not base an estimate on a single high-priced transaction. Look for a cluster of sales of comparable bears and treat unusual results cautiously.
- Set a realistic listing price. Consider comparable completed prices and your preferred trade-off between selling quickly and waiting for a buyer. A displayed tag protector or case should not be assumed to add value; the tracker does not isolate a premium for accessories.
If the value would affect an insurance claim, estate decision or other significant financial choice, seek an appraisal based on the actual bear. A general online price tracker cannot assess your item’s authenticity or condition.

Why is Princess the Bear famous?
Ty introduced Princess the Bear, style 4300, on October 29, 1997, and retired it on April 13, 1999, according to the market tracker. The bear commemorated Princess Diana and was associated with charitable giving. Vanity Fair reported an original suggested price of $5–$7 in 1997 and said Ty reported donating $21,880,000 to the charity established in Diana’s name by the time production stopped in April 1999. That history explains the bear’s significance, but does not set its current resale price. Vanity Fair’s account of the bear’s history.
Claims that Princess was a limited edition helped fuel the early buying frenzy, but TyCollector describes that status as rumor and notes Ty said Princess would be in plentiful supply in 1998. A seller’s “limited edition” description is not proof of a particular production quantity or a price premium. TyCollector’s version history discusses the claim.
