Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

To estimate what yours may sell for, identify the exact camera and lens, then compare recent completed sales of similar examples in similar condition. The result is best treated as a range: working state, optical and cosmetic condition, accessories, buyer demand, location and selling costs can all change the price.
How to estimate what your camera is worth
- Identify the exact camera and lens. Read the maker and model from the body and lens. Record the lens brand, focal length and aperture if visible, plus any version or serial details that may distinguish it. Note what is included: caps, case, box, manual and other accessories. Photograph the markings and any damage so you can compare the same configuration.
- Check completed sales for close matches. Look for several recent sales of the same model and a similar lens or kit. Separate working examples from untested, faulty or parts-only cameras. A listing that has not sold shows an asking price, not what a buyer actually paid. CameraWorth says its model headline is the mean of its ten most recent qualifying sales and is not adjusted for condition; use such a figure as context, not as a precise appraisal. CameraWorth’s valuation guidance
- Make sure you are comparing the same kind of price. An auction hammer price may exclude the buyer’s premium, while some auction houses publish a total that includes it. Dealer asking prices can also be higher than completed transaction prices. Check what each reported amount includes before treating the examples as comparable. CameraWorth’s explanation of auction prices
- Set a range, not a single unsupported figure. Anchor your estimate to the closest completed sales, then explain meaningful differences in condition, lens, accessories, location, date and transaction costs. If no close matches exist, say so rather than extrapolating from a different model.
What changes an old camera’s value?
| Factor | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Identity and version | Maker, exact model, lens, format, variant and relevant originality or serial details. Similar-looking versions may not be equivalent. Identification guidance |
| Working state | Whether the shutter, controls, meter and other functions work. Distinguish tested cameras from untested, faulty or parts-only examples. Condition guidance |
| Optical and cosmetic condition | Lens clarity or damage, body wear, dents, corrosion and other visible defects. A model-level average may not reflect these differences. Condition and identification guidance Condition guidance |
| Completeness | Included lens, caps, case, original box, papers and other accessories. Compare a complete kit with another complete kit where possible. CameraWorth’s valuation guidance Identification guidance |
| Market and transaction | Sale date, region and venue; completed price versus asking price; and whether premiums or other fees are included. CameraWorth’s explanation of sale data Condition and market guidance |
| Rarity and demand | Collector interest may matter, but age or unusual appearance alone does not establish that a camera is rare. Look for model-specific evidence. Market guidance |
Do not assume that spending money on a repair will raise the resale price by the same amount. No general repair-cost-to-resale formula is established here. If you suspect a fault, describe it accurately and compare the camera with similarly described examples.
What a market index can—and cannot—tell you
CameraWorth’s August 2026 UK Vintage Camera Price Index reported a 5.7% median decrease across 82 models, published on August 16, 2026. That result describes the index’s eligible UK auction results; it is not a forecast or a valuation for any particular camera. CameraWorth says the index does not hold condition constant and that the observed set of auction houses can change. CameraWorth’s August 2026 index
More generally, a market statistic has to be read within its scope: a model-level figure is not condition-adjusted, and a UK auction index does not represent every country or selling venue. Use completed sales for the closest possible match to your camera rather than applying a broad trend to it.

When to consider a professional appraisal
For a routine resale estimate, comparable completed sales are a practical starting point. A professional appraisal may be more appropriate for insurance documentation, estate records, a significant donation or sale, or a rare camera where originality matters. Appraisal guidance
An appraisal and a dealer’s purchase offer are different: an appraisal estimates value for a stated purpose, while a buyer’s offer reflects that buyer’s resale economics. Before relying on a formal opinion, ask about the appraiser’s relevant expertise, geographic scope, valuation purpose, written deliverable and fee. A camera price guide can help with historical identification and collector context, but an older printed guide should not be treated as a record of current transaction prices.
