As a broad U.S. listing-market snapshot, CarGurus reported an average used Avalon price of about $17,643 in 2026. That is an asking-price benchmark—not a guaranteed sale price or trade-in offer.
Used Toyota Avalon prices by model year
CarGurus’ 2026 nationwide used-Avalon comparison showed these average listing prices. They are market snapshots, not appraisals of individual cars.
| Model year | Average listing price | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 2014 | $14,493 | CarGurus, 2026 nationwide used-Avalon comparison |
| 2022 | $28,982 | CarGurus, 2026 nationwide used-Avalon comparison; its market-data recommendations were based on data from October 6, 2026 |
The comparison illustrates how much the model year can change the starting point. CarGurus’ overall used-Avalon average was about $17,643 in its 2026 price-trends snapshot; its recent-model-year average was $17,613. These figures reflect marketplace pricing and can change as listings change. CarGurus’ Avalon price trends also showed mixed year-over-year movement: 2019 listings were down 6.62% and 2022 listings down 3.51%, while 2016 listings were up 7.17% and 2015 listings up 6.45%. Its historical price data excludes additional dealer fees as of May 3, 2026.
Why two estimates for the same year can differ
Trim and condition
Trim and vehicle condition can shift a value substantially. Kelley Blue Book’s 2026 page snapshot gave national-average Fair Purchase Prices for a used 2022 Avalon in typical condition of $28,026 for XLE, $31,622 for Limited, and $33,247 for Touring. Those are dealer-purchase estimates, not guaranteed prices; KBB says mileage, condition, location, and other factors affect an individual vehicle’s price, and that its prices update weekly. Mileage and options
Edmunds’ 2026 page snapshot estimated a 2022 Avalon with no options, roughly 12,000 miles driven per year, and “Clean” condition at about $24,057 trade-in or $26,274 private-party. Its broader estimated range for 2022 Avalons was $21,244–$36,350, depending on mileage, condition, and options. These figures are examples under stated assumptions, not universal values. For a different point of comparison, Edmunds’ 2026 snapshot estimated a 2016 Avalon with no options, roughly 12,000 miles driven per year, and “Clean” condition at $10,653 trade-in or $14,555 private-party. The difference between the 2016 and 2022 examples reflects different model years and transaction types as well as the assumptions behind each estimate. Edmunds’ 2016 Avalon appraisal page

Location and local market
National averages may not match local demand. KBB specifically lists location among the factors that can change a vehicle’s value. When comparing listings or estimates, use the same location where possible, and check whether a listing price includes dealer fees.
Trade-in, private-party, and dealer prices are different
Before comparing estimates, decide which transaction you mean. A trade-in estimate is what you might receive from a dealer when trading the car in; a private-party estimate is for a direct sale to another person; dealer-retail describes what a buyer may pay at a dealership. Edmunds notes that private-party estimates are typically higher than trade-in estimates, but a private sale requires you to handle prospective buyers directly. Edmunds’ explanation of car values

Do not treat these figures as interchangeable. A marketplace asking price, a valuation-guide estimate, and a dealer’s trade-in offer answer different questions. The difference between them is not automatically the amount you will gain or lose: the vehicle details, local market, and transaction itself matter.

- Identify the exact car. Record its model year, trim, options, and VIN if the valuation tool requests it.
- Enter accurate mileage and condition. Be realistic about wear, damage, maintenance, and features; an estimate built on incorrect details will be less useful.
- Choose the transaction type. Get a trade-in estimate if you are exchanging the car, or a private-party estimate if you expect to sell directly. Use dealer-retail comparisons only when assessing what a dealer might ask a buyer to pay.
- Compare like with like. Match year, trim, mileage, condition, location, transaction type, and—when looking at listings—whether dealer fees are included.
- Check more than one valuation source and local listings. Use the actual vehicle details in a valuation tool, then compare similar Avalons nearby. Treat estimates as context, not promises of proceeds.
