What H-E-B’s listed price includes
The listing is for H-E-B Fish Market Live Crawfish – Field Run: live Louisiana crawfish that are washed and mostly medium-sized. It describes an average weight of 15 pounds and calls the product a half sack, not a full sack. H-E-B’s page also says it serves about four people. See the live crawfish listing.
The displayed $56.55 total divided by the average 15-pound weight works out to $3.77 per pound. Because the sack weight is an average, the actual weight and resulting per-pound cost may differ.
Why the price and availability can differ by store
H-E-B says prices may vary among in-store, curbside, and delivery channels, and the online listing showed the crawfish unavailable at the selected store. Its crawfish-season guidance advises shoppers to contact their local store about current pricing and availability. Treat the website amount as a reference, then confirm the price and stock with the store or seafood department you plan to use.

Ordering and keeping live crawfish
The live listing specifies a 12-hour advance order, curbside pickup only, a limit of four half sacks per order, and availability while supplies last. H-E-B recommends buying crawfish on the day they will be cooked. For the trip home, it advises icing and covering them, then keeping them moist and cool in a large cooler out of direct sunlight.
How much to buy for a meal
H-E-B’s undated crawfish-season guidance, accessed in 2026, recommends 3–4 pounds of live crawfish per person per meal. Applying that rule to a 15-pound average half sack gives roughly three to five people, depending on appetite and what else is served. This is arithmetic from H-E-B’s general planning guidance, not a separate serving guarantee for this product.

For peeled tails, H-E-B says to allow 6–7 pounds of live crawfish for 1 pound of peeled tails, based on a stated 15% meat yield. These are the retailer’s planning figures, not an independent yield study.

H-E-B lists other crawfish products separately. They are useful alternatives, but their prices are not directly interchangeable with the live half-sack price.

The cooked option costs more per pound than the listed live price, but it is already prepared and sold hot; compare based on convenience and the form of food you want, not just the per-pound numbers.
