In the U.S., Sony’s recommended retail price is $649.99 for the standard PS5, $599.99 for the PS5 Digital Edition, and $899.99 for the PS5 Pro, all before applicable tax. There is no single nationwide PS5 price after tax: the amount depends on the delivery location and the seller’s checkout calculation.
Current U.S. PS5 prices before tax
Sony announced the following U.S. recommended retail prices on March 27, 2026, effective April 2, 2026. They are manufacturer-recommended prices, not a guarantee of a retailer’s price or availability. Sony’s price announcement gives the current figures.

The Digital Edition’s announced price is $50 less than the standard PS5. The standard and Digital Edition drive distinctions come from Sony’s November 2020 FAQ; that FAQ is not the source for current prices.
Why there is no single PS5 price with tax
PlayStation’s U.S. terms say prices generally exclude sales tax and that any applicable tax is calculated and added when the transaction is completed, subject to jurisdictions where local law requires tax-inclusive prices. The terms describe PlayStation transactions; another retailer may have a different checkout process. For the amount you will actually pay, use the seller’s checkout total for your delivery location. How to estimate the after-tax price
For a quick estimate, multiply the console’s pre-tax price by one plus the applicable tax rate:
Estimated total = pre-tax price × (1 + tax rate)
For example, at a hypothetical 8% rate, a $649.99 PS5 would cost $701.99 before shipping or other charges. The 8% rate is an illustrative assumption, not a rate for any particular state, city, or buyer.

- Choose the model and note its current pre-tax checkout price.
- Use the tax rate applicable to the transaction and delivery address. A ZIP code and jurisdiction are needed for a location-specific estimate.
- Calculate the estimate using the formula, or proceed to checkout for the seller’s actual total.
- Check the order summary for shipping, optional protection plans, games, controllers, and other items. Keep them separate from the console’s tax-inclusive price unless you are pricing a bundle.
What to check before comparing totals
- Model: The Digital Edition is less expensive at Sony’s announced pre-tax price, but it does not include a disc drive; the standard PS5 does.
- Seller and listing: Sony’s recommended retail price is not a promise that a retailer sells the console at that amount or has it in stock.
- Bundle contents: Compare what the listing actually includes. Sony catalogs accessories such as DualSense controllers and headsets, but they are optional unless the listing says they are part of the bundle. Sony’s U.S. accessories catalog
- Checkout location and charges: The final amount depends on the transaction and delivery location, and may also include shipping or items beyond the console.
What information is needed for an exact total?
To work out a location-specific total, you need the delivery ZIP code or jurisdiction, the PS5 model, the retailer, and its current checkout price. Without those details, a single precise after-tax figure would not apply reliably across the U.S.
