That is a reported career tally, not a verified total of money Mourinho personally received: the figures combine different currencies and reporting bases, some include staff, and the Fenerbahçe amount remains disputed.
What the reported €108.1 million includes
A Bola’s retrospective tally, published on 17 September 2025, adds reported compensation linked to seven departures: two Chelsea spells, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Roma and Fenerbahçe. It gives a total of €108.1 million. The amounts are a press compilation, not a consistent set of official disclosures or an audited record of Mourinho’s personal receipts.

| Club and departure | Reported amount | What the source establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Chelsea, 2007 | €20.9 million | A Bola’s 2025 retrospective tally; it does not establish a comparable official, personal-payment figure. |
| Real Madrid, 2013 | €19.7 million | A Bola’s 2025 retrospective tally; it does not establish a comparable official, personal-payment figure. |
| Chelsea, 2015 | €9.6 million | A Bola’s 2025 retrospective tally. Separately, The Guardian reported £8.3 million in severance for Mourinho and Chelsea coaches; the two figures are in different currencies and are not reconciled. |
| Manchester United, 2018 | €22 million | A Bola’s 2025 retrospective tally. Manchester United separately disclosed a £19.6 million payment for Mourinho and his backroom staff, not Mourinho alone. |
| Tottenham Hotspur, 2021 | €17.4 million | A Bola’s 2025 retrospective tally; it does not establish a comparable official, personal-payment figure. |
| Roma, 2024 | €3.5 million | A Bola’s 2025 retrospective tally; it does not establish a comparable official, personal-payment figure. |
| Fenerbahçe, 2025 | €15 million | A Bola’s 2025 tally, which attributes the amount to local press. Fenerbahçe’s official notice did not disclose compensation. |
The club-by-club numbers should be read as reported estimates rather than like-for-like measurements. The tally does not consistently distinguish Mourinho’s personal compensation from payments to coaches, nor does it provide a single disclosed conversion method for amounts originally reported in different currencies.
Why the Fenerbahçe figure is uncertain
Fenerbahçe’s 29 August 2025 notice on Turkey’s Public Disclosure Platform confirmed that the club and Mourinho had parted ways, but it stated no compensation amount. BBC Sport reported that negotiations were still under way that day. Citing an unnamed club source, it reported an estimate of about €9 million for Mourinho plus €2 million for his assistants, with no settlement then established.
#1 Best Overall
A Bola’s later tally counts €15 million for Fenerbahçe. The official notice does not confirm that figure, and the contemporaneous BBC estimate differs in amount and scope. The available reports therefore do not establish that Mourinho personally received €15 million—or even that the figure represented a completed payment.

The €108.1 million figure is best described as an estimated total of reported dismissal or early-termination compensation associated with Mourinho’s departures. It should not be treated as a confirmed sum deposited into his personal accounts. For two prominent examples, the reported club payments explicitly cover more than Mourinho:
Rank #2
- Used Book in Good Condition
- Manchester United disclosed £19.6 million in compensation for Mourinho and his backroom staff after his December 2018 dismissal, according to BBC Sport in February 2019.
- The Guardian reported in January 2017 that Chelsea’s accounts showed £8.3 million in severance for Mourinho and fellow coaches after his December 2015 departure.
Those sterling figures come from separate reports and are not directly reconciled with A Bola’s later euro amounts. Nor should compensation be confused with salary Mourinho earned while employed, or with other costs a club may have incurred. The public figures support a widely circulated press estimate, not a precise career ledger of his personal take-home compensation.
