There is no reliable single price for replacing a Tesla’s high-voltage battery pack. Published driver reports range from roughly $10,000 to $22,000, but they describe different vehicles and dates—not a current price list or a representative average. Tesla’s public materials explain warranty coverage and service-agreement terms but do not publish a standard out-of-warranty replacement price. Your cost depends on the diagnosis, the vehicle’s coverage, and the work and parts in the estimate.
What drivers have reported paying
The available examples are historical owner reports and estimates, not independently audited invoices or current Tesla quotes. They are useful for understanding the scale of some reported costs, but not for predicting what a specific repair will cost.
| Reported amount | Vehicle and timing | What the report establishes |
|---|---|---|
| $20,000, including labor | 2014 Model S; reported for a replacement in December 2020 | Recurrent recounts one owner’s historical replacement bill. It is not a current quote. Recurrent |
| $22,000 | 2012 and 2013 Model S vehicles; quotes reported in 2021 | Recurrent describes two historical reported quotes, not a verified market price. Recurrent |
| Roughly $10,000–$20,000; one Model 3 estimate just over $13,000 | Driver reports recounted in a 2025 article; the examples involve differing vehicles and circumstances | SlashGear reports these examples but does not establish a representative survey or standardized current cost. SlashGear |
Because the examples differ in vehicle, date, and type of report, they cannot be combined into a meaningful average. They also do not show what a replacement would cost today in a particular region.
What determines your out-of-pocket cost?
Start by separating the diagnosis from the proposed repair. A battery concern does not by itself establish that the entire high-voltage pack needs replacement. Ask the service provider to explain the diagnostic findings and whether the recommendation is a repair or a complete pack replacement.

- Work scope: Ask what failed, what work is proposed, and why that work addresses the diagnosis.
- Part condition: Ask whether the estimate specifies a new, reconditioned, or remanufactured part. Tesla’s North American warranty says that for covered warranty repairs, parts may be new, reconditioned, or remanufactured at Tesla’s discretion, subject to the warranty’s terms, exclusions, and limitations. - Itemized charges: Request a written estimate that identifies labor and related charges as well as the part and repair scope. The cited public sources do not provide a universal formula for calculating a replacement bill.
The small 12-volt battery is different from the high-voltage traction battery discussed in the cost reports above. Make sure a diagnosis or estimate identifies which battery is involved.
Could Tesla’s battery warranty cover the repair?
Tesla’s US Vehicle Warranty page lists eight-year battery coverage for applicable vehicles, with mileage limits that vary by model and trim, and a minimum 70% battery-capacity retention threshold. These are not blanket terms for every Tesla: coverage depends on the vehicle and is subject to the warranty’s conditions and limitations. Tesla advises owners to consult the warranty supplied with their particular vehicle for authoritative terms. Tesla US Vehicle Warranty

Check the actual warranty for your car’s model, trim, delivery date, mileage limit, and applicable conditions rather than relying on the headline coverage period alone. A battery concern should be assessed against those terms by the service provider.
What if the original warranty has expired?
Tesla says its Battery Extended Service Agreement (Battery ESA) may cover eligible high-voltage battery and drive-unit repair or replacement for up to 24 months or 30,000 miles after the original warranty expires. Tesla lists a $500 deductible per service visit involving eligible work. Eligibility and coverage depend on the purchased agreement, so check that contract for its precise terms and limitations. - Confirm the battery and coverage. Ask whether the concern involves the high-voltage traction pack or the 12-volt battery, then check the vehicle-specific warranty and any Battery ESA agreement.
- Request the diagnosis in writing. Ask what test findings support the recommendation and whether the proposed work is a repair or full pack replacement.
- Ask what part is being supplied. Have the estimate identify the part’s condition where available, and ask whether it is new, reconditioned, or remanufactured.
- Review the complete estimate. Check that labor and related charges are itemized and that any deductible or other coverage terms are reflected.
- Compare equivalent proposals. If you seek another assessment, compare the diagnosis, repair scope, part, and included charges—not just the headline total.
A vehicle-specific written estimate is the practical way to establish your likely cost. The historical reports above offer context, not a substitute for one.

- DROP-IN 12V 35AH: Swaps straight in for 6-FM-33, DCS-33 and 8AU1H; fits Deka Intimidator 8AU1; serves as a replacement for Tesla Model S 12V battery. The 7.7 x 6.1 x 5.16 in case and 22 lb weight match the original 12V 35 Ah footprint, so it settles into place with no modification.
- READY TO INSTALL: Arrives factory-activated and fully charged, with no acid to pour and no bench-charging before you start. Set it in place, thread on your leads, and your chair, boat, mower, or solar bank is back in service in minutes, the same afternoon it shows up.
- M6 BOLT TERMINALS: The terminals are internal-thread posts that take an M6 bolt directly into the case, not the nut-and-bolt studs some listings picture. Match your existing cable lugs to M6 hardware up front and your connections tighten down flush, no adapters and no rigging.
- MOUNT IT ANYWHERE: Because the cells are fully sealed and leak-free, you can set it upright, lay it on its side, or tuck it under a seat in any orientation without a mess. Maintenance-free means you bolt it in once and skip the water top-offs flooded batteries always demanded.
- 35AH ALL-DAY RESERVE: 35 Ah and 420 Wh of deep-cycle reserve is sized for a 30-55 lb thrust trolling motor, an all-day power-chair outing, or an off-grid solar and inverter load. When the job is starting instead of running, 380 CCA fires up lawn tractors, generators, and golf carts.
