There is no single price to charge a Toyota Prius Prime: the estimate depends on the model year, how much electricity the car uses, and your electricity rate. Using EPA/ENERGY STAR ratings and the EPA label’s illustrative rate of $0.12 per kilowatt-hour, a 2023 or 2024 Prius Prime works out to about $1.50 for a rated-range-equivalent amount of electricity. That is a calculation from standardized ratings—not a measured bill for a full recharge.
How to estimate the electricity cost
Use the vehicle’s electricity-consumption rating, its electric range and your price per kilowatt-hour (kWh):
Estimated electricity cost = kWh per 100 miles × electric miles ÷ 100 × electricity price per kWh
The U.S. EPA explains that plug-in hybrid electricity consumption is shown in kWh per 100 miles and relates directly to fuel expenditures. For your own estimate, use your utility bill’s per-kWh energy charge and include any delivery charges that vary with usage. The EPA label example uses $0.12/kWh; it is an illustrative input, not a current or universal electricity rate. EPA: Interactive Version of the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Label.

Rated-range examples for 2023 and 2024
The following estimates multiply each listing’s electricity-consumption rating by its electric range, then apply the EPA label’s illustrative $0.12/kWh rate. The energy amount is a range-equivalent calculation from ratings, not a wall-meter reading of a recharge.
| Model year and trim | EPA/ENERGY STAR electricity use | Electric range | Range-equivalent energy | Estimated cost at $0.12/kWh | Estimated cost per electric mile |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 Prius Prime SE | 26 kWh/100 miles | 48 miles | 26 × 48 ÷ 100 = 12.48 kWh | 12.48 × $0.12 = about $1.50 | About 3.1 cents |
| 2023 Prius Prime | 29 kWh/100 miles | 43 miles | 29 × 43 ÷ 100 = 12.47 kWh | 12.47 × $0.12 = about $1.50 | About 3.5 cents |

Why this is not necessarily your full-recharge bill
A rating-based estimate is useful for comparing electric-mile costs, but it does not establish how much electricity every recharge draws from a household outlet. Actual cost depends on your rate and charging circumstances, including the battery’s starting charge and charging losses. The reviewed official figures do not provide a standardized measured wall-energy draw for every model year.
For the 2025 Prius Plug-in Hybrid, Toyota reports a 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery and a manufacturer-estimated 44-mile electric range for the SE. Those figures alone do not establish the cost to fill the battery: battery capacity is not the same thing as electricity drawn at the wall, and the cited Toyota material does not supply a 2025 EPA kWh/100-mile rating for this calculation. Charging time and home equipment
The EPA/ENERGY STAR listing estimates four hours to charge the 2024 SE at 240 volts. That is an elapsed-time estimate, not a price. EPA notes that charging time can vary with battery depletion, storage capacity, battery type and temperature. EPA: Plug-in Electric Vehicle Charging: The Basics.
Toyota says the 2025 Prius Plug-in Hybrid can charge from a standard household outlet using the cable supplied with the vehicle and recommends a dedicated GFI 15A outlet. A Level 2 setup is an optional faster home-charging route; additional equipment may be needed. These sources do not establish that every owner needs a new charger or that this vehicle supports DC fast charging.
