The clearest public A321XLR price benchmark is approximately US$142 million in 2018 prices, a list-price figure disclosed by International Airlines Group (IAG) in 2019. It is not a current quote or the amount IAG paid: IAG said it negotiated a substantial discount. Airbus has not published aircraft list prices since 2018, and public sources reviewed do not establish a current net unit price.
What is the A321XLR’s published price benchmark?
IAG’s 18 June 2019 regulatory disclosure put the A321XLR at approximately US$142 million in 2018 prices. IAG’s definition of list price combined the airframe list price, the list price of the engine option, and certain assumed specification change notices. The figure is therefore a historical list-price benchmark, not a current market quote or a transaction price. IAG’s 2019 disclosure also says the group negotiated a substantial discount.
How much do airlines actually pay?
A public net unit price is not established by the available disclosures. The Wizz Air regulatory circular says aircraft acquisition prices are not customarily disclosed publicly and identifies confidentiality, concessions, specification changes, engine choice, price escalation and taxes as factors affecting contract prices. These variables mean a list price or an order’s headline value cannot reliably tell you what an airline paid for an individual aircraft. Wizz Air’s 2023 circular
Why the A321neo price is not an XLR price
The same Wizz Air circular gives a 2018 average list price of US$129.5 million for the A321neo. That is a different model and should not be substituted for an A321XLR price. Airbus said its aircraft list prices increased by an average of two percent effective 1 January 2018, but that was a product-line-wide adjustment, not an XLR-specific price update. What the 2025 AirAsia agreement does—and does not—show
On 5 July 2025, AirAsia announced an agreement valued at USD12.25 billion for 50 A321XLRs, with rights for 20 additional aircraft and scheduled deliveries from 2028 to 2032. The announcement does not break out a unit price. Dividing the headline value by 50 or 70 would produce an unsupported estimate because the disclosed agreement value and aircraft quantities do not establish a per-aircraft transaction price. AirAsia’s announcement
What the aircraft is, and why that does not set its price
Airbus describes the A321XLR as a longer-range A321neo variant, with range of up to 4,700 nautical miles and more than 90 percent commonality with the A321neo. Those details place the XLR in Airbus’s product family, but neither establishes its purchase price. Airbus’s 2019 announcement

Before treating a figure as comparable to IAG’s benchmark, check that it identifies the aircraft variant, price year or escalation basis, and whether it is a list price or negotiated amount. Also look for the engine and specification included, order size, delivery schedule, and treatment of taxes or buyer-furnished equipment. Without those details, two headline prices may not describe equivalent purchases.
