The strongest national benchmark available for Canadian airline pilots is a median wage of $52.00 per hour, with a reported low of $24.04 and high of $106.00. These are Job Bank estimates based on a 2023–2024 reference period—not measured average earnings for calendar year 2025. The figures are useful for orientation, but they are not a guaranteed salary for a specific airline, rank, or aircraft.
What is the average pilot salary in Canada in 2025?
Job Bank’s national wage page, updated November 19, 2025, lists these hourly wage points for airline pilots in Canada:
| Measure | Hourly wage |
|---|---|
| Low | $24.04 |
| Median | $52.00 |
| High | $106.00 |
The figures describe the wage reference period 2023–2024. The page’s 2025 update date does not make them a measure of pilots’ earnings throughout 2025. The median is the midpoint of the reported wage distribution, not an average or a promise of what an individual pilot will earn. Government of Canada Job Bank wage data.
These are hourly occupational estimates, not annual salaries. Multiplying $52 by a chosen number of hours would produce an illustration based on that assumption, not an observed annual salary; the cited wage data do not establish a universal number of paid hours for pilots.

Why the national figure does not describe every pilot
Job Bank’s broader occupational profile groups air pilots with flight engineers and flight instructors under NOC 72600. It describes work at airlines and air-freight companies, flying schools, and other public and private aircraft operators. The national occupational figure should therefore not be read as a salary distribution covering airline pilots alone. Job Bank occupation profile.
Actual compensation can differ according to the type of work and employer, whether a pilot is a captain or first officer, aircraft, seniority or pay step, and location. A national hourly estimate and an employer’s annual base-pay scale are different kinds of figures, so they should not be treated as directly interchangeable.

What an agreement-specific salary scale looks like
A federal collective-agreement record lists annual base rates of $89,716.69 to $97,588.81 across steps 1–5 for rotor-wing first officers, effective January 1, 2025. This is a pay scale for the role and agreement named in that record, not a typical or guaranteed salary for Canadian pilots generally. Government of Canada Negotech collective-agreement record.
The example also shows why rank, aircraft category, employer, bargaining unit, and pay step matter: an agreement may set annual base rates for a defined group, while Job Bank reports hourly estimates across an occupational category.

Benefits add context to wage comparisons
Job Bank reports that 93.3% of workers in NOC 72600 receive at least one type of non-wage benefit. That percentage covers the broader category of air pilots, flight engineers, and flight instructors; it is not an airline-pilot-only benefit rate. Benefits may include an employer-sponsored pension, insurance, paid leave, sick days, vacation, and employer contributions to public payroll plans. Job Bank occupation profile.
Because the statistic counts workers receiving at least one type of benefit, it does not establish which benefits a particular pilot receives or the dollar value of that package. For a personal compensation comparison, check the employer’s current offer or collective agreement as well as base pay.
How to compare pilot pay figures fairly
- Match the occupation and employer. A broad Job Bank category includes related occupations and several types of operators; an agreement rate may cover one employer or bargaining unit.
- Match the role and aircraft. Captain, first-officer, rotor-wing, and other pilot roles are not automatically comparable.
- Match the pay basis. Keep hourly estimates separate from annual agreement rates unless the hours and calculation are explicitly stated.
- Check seniority and date. A pay step can change the rate, and an agreement’s effective date matters when comparing it with a wage estimate.
- Check geography and reference period. Job Bank publishes regional as well as national figures. A regional comparison is meaningful only when its location, reference period, and estimate are checked directly.
- Include benefits carefully. A broad benefit-coverage percentage is not a measure of the value or contents of one person’s package.
Military pilot pay uses a different system
Military pilot compensation is set within a separate federal framework. The Department of National Defence publishes monthly pay tables for military officers in the pilot occupation, with amounts determined by rank and pay increment. Those figures should not be combined with civilian airline wage estimates or agreement scales. Department of National Defence military pay information.
