Published 2025 list-price examples for new commercial jet engines range from about US$12 million to US$42 million per engine. That is a range of reported prices for specific models—not a standard market price or what every airline pays. The model, aircraft application, condition, remaining service life, availability, and deal structure all affect the cost.
Reported prices for new commercial jet engines
AviTrader reported these list-price benchmarks on July 15, 2025. They are trade-publication figures, not verified manufacturer quotations or negotiated transaction prices.

What kind of engine cost are you asking about?
A purchase price, an exchange, an overhaul, and a lease are different financial arrangements. A figure is useful only when its transaction type and engine condition are clear.

New-engine list price
A list price is a reference figure for a specific engine. It is not necessarily the negotiated sale price, and the available public examples do not establish typical discounts or confidential contract terms.
Used or overhauled engine
Used and freshly overhauled engines are priced according to their specific condition and maintenance status. Pratt & Whitney Canada lists new, used, and freshly overhauled engines, but its reviewed sales page does not publish a model-by-model price schedule. Exchange or overhaul
An exchange may involve trading in an existing engine, while an overhaul involves work on an engine the buyer already owns or is acquiring. The total cost depends on the seller’s terms and, for a trade-in, the eligibility and condition of the engine core. Pratt & Whitney Canada advertises outright purchase and exchange options; its terms should be checked for the particular engine and transaction.
Lease
A lease provides use of an engine for a defined period rather than ownership through an outright purchase. In a June 2026 report citing Cirium data, The Week said leasing two Pratt & Whitney engines cost US$400,000 in January 2025, compared with US$306,000 to lease an A320neo aircraft. Why the price varies
Engine model and aircraft application
Engines are designed for particular aircraft and applications; one family’s price is not a reliable stand-in for another’s. For example, GE identifies the GE90 as an engine family for Boeing 777 aircraft, while the reported US$42 million figure above is for the distinct GE9X. Do not transfer the GE9X price to the GE90.
Condition and remaining service life
For a used engine, maintenance history and the remaining cycles on its life-limited parts are important to its value. Two engines of the same model can therefore warrant different prices depending on their records, configuration, and remaining life.

An outright purchase, exchange, overhaul, or lease carries different payment obligations and may include different conditions. Inventory also changes: Pratt & Whitney Canada describes its pricing as dynamic and its inventory as subject to availability. A previously reported figure is not a substitute for a current, model- and condition-specific quote.

For a useful comparison, ask the seller to identify the engine model and configuration, its condition and maintenance status, remaining LLP cycles, what is included in the transaction, and any exchange or trade-in conditions. For leases, compare the term and obligations rather than treating the payment as an ownership price. Without those details, a headline figure can conceal meaningful differences between offers.

How significant are engines to aircraft value?
Avolon estimated that a pair of engines can account for up to 80% of a new aircraft’s market value, according to a 2026 report by The Week. That is an attributed estimate, not a universal ratio; it illustrates why engine values can be substantial relative to the aircraft, but should not be used to calculate a specific engine price.
