There is no single prize for reaching Champions League qualifying. For 2025/26, UEFA projected a combined €132 million for qualifying-round clubs across the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, generally paying €175,000 for each qualifying round played, subject to exceptions. A separate rule pays €4.29 million to each club eliminated in the Champions League play-offs.
How much is the Champions League qualification prize money?
The headline €132 million is a shared qualifying-round pool across UEFA’s three men’s club competitions—not a Champions League-only fund. It represents 3% of UEFA’s projected €4.4 billion gross revenue for 2025/26. Under the general rule, a club receives €175,000 for each qualifying round it plays, but the amount a particular club receives depends on its route, where it is eliminated, and applicable exceptions.
UEFA’s circular, dated 16 June 2025, describes these amounts as provisional projections. Read UEFA’s 2025/26 distribution circular.
Which payments apply to each outcome?
| Club’s outcome | Payment rule | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Plays qualifying rounds | Generally €175,000 per round played | Exceptions apply; a club’s route and final qualifying destination matter. |
| Eliminated in Conference League qualifying | Elimination bonus of €150,000 to €750,000, depending on the final round | These are Conference League qualifying elimination bonuses, not a universal schedule for all clubs that started in Champions League qualifying. Any applicable round fee is separate. |
| Domestic champion fails to reach any of the three league phases | Additional €260,000 | Paid in addition to applicable amounts. |
| Eliminated in the Champions League play-offs | €4.29 million per club | A separate play-off allocation, not the per-round fee or Conference League elimination bonus. |
| Wins the Champions League play-off | No specific play-off payment | The club qualifies for the league phase and is paid under that phase’s distribution rules. |

| Q2 | €350,000 |
| Q3 | €550,000 |
| Play-offs | €750,000 |
These bonuses are distinct from any qualifying-round fee that applies. They should not be applied automatically to every club that began in Champions League qualifying: clubs can move between competition paths, and the final qualifying destination affects the payment rule.
Why the Champions League play-off payment is different
UEFA set aside €30 million for Champions League play-off clubs. Each play-off loser receives €4.29 million. A winner receives no specific play-off payment because it advances to the league phase, where a different distribution applies.

For 2025/26, UEFA projected a league-phase allocation of €18.62 million per Champions League club, comprising a €17.87 million down-payment and a €750,000 balance. That is a projected league-phase allocation—not a guaranteed payment for clubs merely entering qualifying. Further league-phase income depends on results, final ranking and progress through the knockout rounds.
How qualification worked in 2025/26
The qualifying campaign ran from 8 July to 27 August 2025. UEFA said 29 clubs qualified directly for the Champions League league phase, with the remaining seven places decided in qualifying. The qualifying rounds were Q1, Q2, Q3 and the play-offs; a club’s entry point depended on association club-coefficient rankings. From Q2, clubs were divided between the champions path and the league path. UEFA’s 2025/26 qualification explainer gives the season format and qualification context.

These figures are projections, not guaranteed final receipts
UEFA based the 2025/26 distribution plan on a projected €4.4 billion gross-revenue threshold. Its circular says the provisions remain subject to final confirmation and that final distributions will be based on amounts actually received by UEFA. Exchange-rate volatility and global economic uncertainty are among the reasons it advises prudent budgeting; disclosed figures may also be rounded, so actual amounts can vary slightly.
Across all three competitions, UEFA’s projected allocation included €132 million for qualifying-round participants, €308 million for clubs not participating, and €3.317 billion for centralized phases from the league phase onward. Of the centralized-phase total, €2.467 billion was allocated to the Champions League and Super Cup. UEFA describes the wider model as combining reward payments to participating teams with solidarity payments to non-participating clubs.
