But the reporting is not consistent: a contemporaneous 2019 account says that amount was for the first film, followed by renegotiations for the next two. The public reports do not establish a complete accounting of his compensation.
What was Orlando Bloom reportedly paid?
Metro reported in September 2019 that Bloom received $175,000 for playing Legolas across the trilogy. Variety in 2024 and The Guardian in 2025 also described the amount as covering all three films. The figure traces back to Bloom’s 2019 appearance on The Howard Stern Show; Metro quoted him as saying, “Nothing, I got nothing. 175 grand.” Metro’s report
That phrasing can sound as if Bloom received no meaningful pay, but the quote itself names $175,000. It is best read as his characterization of the sum, not as evidence that he received nothing.
Why do reports disagree about the $175,000?
GameSpot’s September 18, 2019 account says Bloom’s $175,000 was his fee for The Fellowship of the Ring, and that he renegotiated for The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Its account of those later negotiations relies on The Playlist. That differs from Metro’s description of $175,000 as pay for all three films. GameSpot’s report
Variety and The Guardian later repeated the trilogy-total version. The evidence therefore supports calling $175,000 the widely reported figure for the trilogy, while making clear that one contemporaneous report assigns it to the first film alone. The sources do not establish how much Bloom received after renegotiation, so it would be misleading to add an estimated sequel fee or calculate a reliable per-film average.
What does the figure include—and what remains unknown?
The reports reviewed do not provide Bloom’s contracts or a full payment ledger. They do not establish whether the reported amount captures every form of compensation, such as later fees, residuals, or backend participation. Nor do they prove that no other payments were made. The official Howard Stern Show page for Bloom’s September 4, 2019 appearance confirms he discussed the production and says the three films were shot at once in New Zealand over 18 months, but its accessible text does not state the salary.

The Guardian reported that the three films grossed $2.96 billion worldwide in 2025. That figure is the trilogy’s box-office gross, not Bloom’s earnings or his share of the revenue. A film’s gross does not reveal an actor’s salary or whether the actor received profit participation. The Guardian’s report
Bloom played Legolas in The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, released from 2001 to 2003. The production’s scale and box-office success provide context, but neither resolves the conflicting accounts of his compensation.
