What is known about the transfer fee?
Leicester City announced on 22 August 2025 that it had agreed to transfer McAteer to Ipswich, subject to league clearance. The club described the fee as undisclosed. Leicester City’s announcement therefore does not confirm a price.
On the same day, BBC Sport reported that the fee was “thought to be about £12m.” That is a reported estimate, not an official figure from either club. The careful answer is that the move was reported at about £12 million, while the exact fee remains unconfirmed.
Why is there no confirmed figure?
Leicester’s financial statements discuss proceeds from several summer transfers collectively, without identifying McAteer’s individual fee. The FA’s agent-transactions listing classifies his move as a permanent transfer in for Ipswich but does not give a price. Neither establishes the BBC’s estimate as the confirmed fee.

BBC Sport reported that McAteer agreed a four-year contract at Portman Road. Ipswich Town’s player profile says his contract runs until summer 2029.
