What did Rover announce in 2014?
Rover’s November 3, 2014 announcement said it had received funding from A-Grade Investments and named Kutcher, Oseary, and Burkle as the investment firm’s partners. The announcement also coincided with Rover Premier’s launch in Los Angeles.

Contemporary coverage by GeekWire reported that Rover and A-Grade representatives declined to discuss deal details. The available reporting therefore does not establish the investment amount, Kutcher’s individual contribution, an ownership percentage, or other financial terms.

Kutcher’s stated rationale focused on a familiar problem for dog owners: finding a trusted caregiver. In Rover’s announcement, he said, “As dog owners, we understand how difficult it can be to find someone you trust to care for your dog.” He also praised the way Rover connected owners with people who love dogs.

That is an investor’s explanation of the opportunity, not independent evidence that Rover delivered better care or that every listed provider was suitable for every pet.
What was Rover’s marketplace?
In its 2014 announcement, Rover described a marketplace matching dog owners with people offering in-home boarding, pet sitting, dog walking, and day care. A later company filing described a broader mix of overnight and daytime pet-care services, including overnight boarding and in-home sitting, doggy day care, walking, and drop-in visits. That filing reflects the company’s disclosures at the time, not necessarily its current services, availability, fees, or screening policies.

The 2021 SEC registration statement also described Rover’s marketplace revenue as coming principally from fees charged to pet parents and providers for platform use, and said providers paid background-check fees to list. These are historical company disclosures and should not be treated as current terms or as a guarantee about any individual provider. What happened to Rover afterward?
Rover later became a public company, but that is not its current ownership status: Blackstone announced that it completed its acquisition of Rover in 2024. Rover’s 2014 release also identified Petco as a strategic investor. That historical description alone does not establish a present-day partnership or affiliate program.
