In a 2016 comparison, the A380 was listed at US$432.6 million and the 747-8 passenger at US$378.5 million. Airbus later published an A380 average list price of US$445.6 million for 2018. These figures should not be treated as current prices or as directly matched prices from the same year.
Published A380 and 747-8 prices
The clearest side-by-side comparison is Airfinance Global’s 2016 table, which distinguishes list price from appraiser-estimated market value. Airbus’s separately published 2018 figure is a later A380 average list price, not a matching 2018 price for the 747-8.

Airbus’s average list price for the A380 was US$436.9 million in 2017 and US$445.6 million in 2018. Airbus notes that the price depends on design weights, engine choice, and selected customization. The 2017 and 2018 figures are Airbus list-price references, not evidence of a customer’s negotiated purchase price. Airbus 2018 average list prices; Airbus 2017 average list prices.
Airfinance Global’s 2016 values are also separate measures: the list prices are published reference prices, while the market values are estimates based on appraiser inputs. Neither figure establishes a transaction price. Airfinance Global.

Why the figures do not tell you what an airline paid
Aircraft list prices are not the same as contract prices. An airline’s actual purchase terms can reflect negotiation, fleet-order size, aircraft configuration, support, financing, and other contract provisions. Those terms are not generally captured by a published list-price figure, and the cited sources do not provide a complete, comparable set of confidential airline contract prices.
Market-value estimates are not transaction records either. The 2016 table’s A380 and 747-8 estimates are appraiser-based values, not proof that an aircraft changed hands at those amounts.

Which Boeing 747 does the comparison mean?
The 2016 comparison is specifically between the A380 and the 747-8 passenger. “Boeing 747” covers multiple variants and decades of production, so the figure should not be generalized to every 747 model. Boeing’s final 747 was a 747-8 Freighter, which left the Everett factory in December 2022 and was delivered to Atlas Air in early 2023. That final freighter is not the passenger variant in the 2016 price comparison. Boeing says 1,574 747 aircraft were built over a 54-year production run. Boeing’s final 747 announcement.

The A380 entered commercial service in 2007, and production has ceased. Airbus says the full-length double-deck aircraft can carry more than 850 passengers in an all-economy layout; it also says A380 operators will continue to receive Airbus support and services. Airbus A380 product information.
