Those figures are attributed to Deloitte’s 2026 Annual Review of Football Finance in reporting by the Coventry Chronicle—not to a personal confirmation by owner Doug King.
How much could Coventry City earn from promotion?
The Coventry-specific estimate is at least £210 million in additional revenue across the next three seasons. The reported upside scenario is £365 million if Coventry stays in the Premier League after its first season back. Coventry Chronicle reports these projections from Deloitte’s 2026 Annual Review of Football Finance: Coventry Chronicle’s report.
These are multi-season revenue projections, not a guaranteed promotion prize paid in one lump sum. The reported uplift combines matchday, broadcast and commercial revenue; the available report does not provide a component-by-component breakdown or a payment schedule.
What do the £210 million and £365 million figures mean?
- At least £210 million: Deloitte’s reported minimum estimate of Coventry’s additional revenue over three seasons following promotion.
- Up to £365 million in the stated scenario: the reported projection if Coventry avoids relegation after its first Premier League season. This is conditional, not a guaranteed outcome.
A separate general explainer puts Premier League promotion earnings at around £200 million, while noting that there is no single fixed amount and that a club’s earnings depend on its time in the division and results: Football FanCast’s explainer. That broad estimate is not directly interchangeable with Deloitte’s Coventry-specific projections: the latter cover three seasons and include multiple revenue streams.

Did Doug King confirm how much Coventry will earn?
The available reporting does not show King confirming either the £210 million or £365 million figure. Those estimates are attributed to Deloitte through the Coventry Chronicle report. King’s published comments address his personal investment and the club’s approach to spending, rather than a quantified forecast of promotion revenue.
In a May 2026 Guardian interview, King described his decision to invest in the club: “I’m a human being. I’ve earned some money. I’ve decided to deploy it into a project, which is a dangerous thing to do, actually, for your wealth.” The interview also recounts that he acquired 100% of the club in January 2023 and that Coventry bought the CBS Arena for £50 million in 2025. Those ownership and stadium details are separate from Deloitte’s revenue projection. The Guardian interview.

BBC Sport reported that King said Coventry had planned for the Premier League and that the club seeks value in recruitment: “People spend money very badly at times, I would say what we do is we look for value.” This is a statement about strategy, not a confirmation of the revenue estimates.
