There is no publicly confirmed figure for Chuba Akpom’s contractual wage. During the clubs’ 2025 loan contest, a contemporary report said Ipswich Town would cover about 60% of his wages, compared with Birmingham City’s reported offer to cover half. Those were reported loan contributions—not confirmed salary terms—and they do not establish what Ipswich pays under Akpom’s later permanent deal.
What was reported about Birmingham and Ipswich’s loan offers?
In August 2025, Ipswich and Birmingham were both linked with a season-long loan for Akpom. A contemporary Ipswich-focused report said Ipswich would pay about 60% of his wages, while Birmingham had offered to cover 50%. The reported comparison is about each club’s proposed share during a loan, not the amount of Akpom’s full salary. TWTD’s report is secondary reporting; neither club publicly confirmed those wage-share figures.
Sky Sports reported Birmingham’s interest in a season-long loan with a £7 million purchase obligation triggered by promotion, and said Ipswich completed a similar loan deal after making a late approach. That account describes the transfer contest but does not report the wage split. Sky Sports’ account
Why the 2025 figures do not describe Ipswich’s current cost
Ajax announced on 10 August 2025 that Akpom had joined Ipswich on loan for the season through 30 June 2026, with an option to buy. At that time, Ajax said his contract there ran through 30 June 2028. Ajax’s announcement

Ipswich announced on 5 May 2026 that it had triggered the permanent transfer during the 2025/26 season. The club said the deal runs to 2029 and takes effect on 1 July 2026. Ipswich’s announcement establishes the timing and length of the permanent deal, but does not disclose wages. The reported 2025 loan contributions should not be treated as terms of the permanent contract.
What salary estimates are publicly listed?
Third-party salary databases disagree, and none establishes Akpom’s contractual pay. The listed figures are estimates, not official disclosures.

| Publisher | Listed estimate | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Capology | £35,000 per week; £1,820,000 per year | Third-party estimate. Capology notes that loan players can have multiple estimates reflecting how pay is split between clubs. |
| FBref | £35,000 per week | Explicitly labeled an “Unverified estimation.” |
| SalarySport | £80,000 per week | Conflicting third-party estimate; not an official disclosure. |
With estimates ranging from £35,000 to £80,000 a week, there is no defensible public figure for Akpom’s exact salary or Ipswich’s present weekly wage outlay.

| Assumed weekly wage estimate | 50% share | 60% share |
|---|---|---|
| £35,000 (Capology and FBref estimates) | £17,500 a week | £21,000 a week |
| £80,000 (SalarySport estimate) | £40,000 a week | £48,000 a week |
For example, £21,000 is what 60% of £35,000 equals mathematically; it is not a verified record of Ipswich’s loan payment. The calculation depends on both an unverified salary baseline and a reported historical share.
