Recent reporting identifies four current private jets attributed to Elon Musk, while aircraft-tracking sites list five associated aircraft. There is no single, publicly verified count of jets he personally owns: the sources disagree about which aircraft are current, and public registration data may not disclose beneficial ownership.
Why the reported count is four or five
The difference comes down to what each source counts. AeroCorner says its account covers Musk’s fleet as of August 2026 and identifies four current Gulfstreams: N628TS, N8628, N7628 and N272BG. It describes N502SX as formerly in the fleet, not current. AeroCorner’s fleet account
Celebplanes and PrivJet each list five aircraft associated with Musk, but their lists do not match. Celebplanes includes N450GG; PrivJet includes N7628 and continues to list N502SX. These tracker lists should not be combined into a verified fleet: one aircraft may be a historical association, and the sources differ on which registrations belong in the current count. What “owns,” “has” and “flies” mean here
Those terms describe different claims. A registration connects an aircraft with a registered owner or operator when that information is public. An attribution links a registration to Musk through records or reporting, but does not by itself establish who ultimately owns the aircraft. And a tracked movement shows where an aircraft went—not whether Musk was aboard or ordered the flight.

The FAA says private aircraft owners and operators can request that certain registration information be withheld from public view. Its March 28, 2025 announcement describes the electronic request process under Section 803. As a result, a public registry lookup may not reveal an aircraft’s ultimate beneficial owner. Which aircraft appear in the reports
The lists identify Gulfstreams, but the overlap is not a complete agreement on the fleet. N628TS is consistently identified as a G650ER. The accounts also name G800, G700, G550 and G450 aircraft. In particular, the fifth aircraft differs between the tracker lists: Celebplanes includes N450GG, while PrivJet names N7628 and retains N502SX. Treating every aircraft named across all three sources as currently owned would overstate what the evidence establishes.

What flight-tracking numbers can—and cannot—show
Celebplanes reports 355 flights and approximately 881 hours for 2024 across the aircraft it tracks. Those are fleet-level movement figures reported by the tracker, not a verified count of flights Musk personally took. The tracker cautions that movement data does not identify passengers. PrivJet likewise warns that an aircraft attributed to Musk may be chartered, leased, sold or used by others.

How to read a new or conflicting count
- Check the date. A list may describe a fleet at a particular time or preserve a past association.
- Check what is being counted. “Current aircraft,” “historically associated registrations” and “aircraft tracked” are not interchangeable categories.
- Look for ownership evidence. A public registration or tracker attribution may not disclose beneficial ownership, particularly where identifying data is withheld.
- Do not infer passengers from a flight path. Aircraft tracking cannot establish who was aboard.
