Nintendo reported 156.59 million Nintendo Switch hardware units worldwide through June 30, 2026. That is the original Switch platform’s cumulative lifetime figure—not a total that includes Switch 2. Nintendo lists Switch 2 separately at 23.68 million units.

How many Nintendo Switch consoles has Nintendo sold?

Nintendo’s official sales table lists 156.59 million Nintendo Switch hardware units worldwide on a life-to-date basis as of June 30, 2026. The figure is Nintendo’s reported consolidated unit total; it should not be described as a third-party estimate or as a retail sell-through measurement.

The table also reports 1,561.95 million Nintendo Switch software units over the platform’s lifetime through the same date. Hardware and software units are different measures: the software total counts units of games and other software, not consoles or individual players.

Does the Switch total include Switch 2?

No. Nintendo reports the platforms separately. As of June 30, 2026, its table lists 156.59 million Nintendo Switch hardware units and 23.68 million Nintendo Switch 2 hardware units. Do not add the two figures and describe the result as Switch sales. Nintendo launched Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, and says consumers can play Nintendo Switch software on the newer system; software compatibility does not combine the two hardware totals. How did Switch hardware sales change in Nintendo’s fiscal year?

For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, Nintendo reported 3.80 million Nintendo Switch hardware units sold, down 64.8% year over year. That is an annual fiscal-year figure, not the platform’s lifetime total. Nintendo’s FY2026 sales-status material defines sell-in as sales by the Nintendo group to outside entities; it includes sales to corporate business partners and, where applicable, sales to individuals through Nintendo’s direct-sales websites or downloadable software. The same material gives a cumulative Switch hardware total of 155.41 million at March 31, 2026. The cumulative total then rose to 156.59 million by June 30, 2026. See Nintendo’s FY2026 sales-status presentation.

Has Nintendo Switch outsold Nintendo DS?

Yes. In Nintendo’s current official sales table, Switch stands at 156.59 million lifetime hardware units and Nintendo DS at 154.02 million. On Nintendo’s reported figures, Switch has passed DS. This comparison uses the same company’s reported worldwide lifetime table; it does not establish an all-time ranking across every console maker or an independently measured retail-sales ranking.
