Market context: buyouts, oil and Treasury yields
AP framed the session as stocks rising near their records after a couple of buyout announcements helped lift the market. Its recap did not name the announcements, so the reported figures do not establish which companies or deals drove the move. Oil was volatile: Brent crude traded between $100 and $103 per barrel before settling a little above $100. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield rose to 5.31%.

The percentage changes describe each index’s one-session move; the year-to-date column describes performance through October 5, 2026. Index gains do not mean every stock rose, and the AP recap provides no market-breadth statistic showing how many individual stocks advanced or declined.
