It depends on the bridge route. Wormhole announced that transfers of supported assets between Ethereum and Solana could take under 15 seconds on its Portal route, while a transfer that waits for Ethereum finality can take roughly 15–20 minutes. The under-15-second figure is a route-specific product claim from October 2024, not a guarantee for every token or transaction. Check the current route, asset, quoted fees and transfer status before you send.
Why bridge times vary
A bridge transfer has more than one possible timing milestone: the destination may receive an asset before the source-chain transaction reaches Ethereum finality. Finality is the stronger settlement assurance that a transaction will not be reversed through a chain reorganization, and waiting for it takes longer.
Ethereum.org says an Ethereum block takes about 15 minutes to finalize, on a page updated July 23, 2026: Ethereum proof-of-stake finality. Wormhole’s current reference lists approximately 19 minutes for Ethereum finality and approximately 14 seconds for Solana finality: Wormhole finality reference. These are chain-finality estimates, not universal bridge completion times.
A route that waits for Ethereum finality can therefore take around 15–20 minutes. An intent-based route may deliver sooner because a solver fulfills the transfer using liquidity on multiple chains, rather than waiting for the same source-chain finality milestone. Wormhole describes Mayan Swift execution as typically around 12 seconds in its Settlement overview; that is a route-specific typical execution figure, not a guarantee of finalized settlement.

What Wormhole’s fast-time claim means
In an October 3, 2024 announcement, Wormhole said supported assets could be transferred between Ethereum and Solana, among other listed chains, in under 15 seconds: Wormhole Portal announcement. The claim applies to supported assets and the route described in that announcement. It should not be treated as a current service-level guarantee for every token, route or transaction. Confirm what Portal offers for the specific asset before relying on that estimate.
Execution speed and finality are not interchangeable. Wormhole says finalized transfers provide the strongest protection against reorganizations; faster finality settings increase reorganization exposure. A fast displayed completion time is not, by itself, evidence that the transfer has the same settlement assurance as one that waits for finality.

Check these details before sending
- Route and asset: Confirm that the bridge supports your specific asset and note the route selected. The available route and app can affect how the transfer is handled; see Wormhole’s Portal FAQ.
- What you will receive: A wrapped-token route can lock the asset on Ethereum and mint a wrapped representation on Solana after the destination transfer completes. Do not assume the output is native SOL; check the destination asset label and details. Wormhole describes this flow in its wrapped-token documentation.
- Fees: Check the quote, including network and bridge fees. Ethereum.org notes that bridge fees can vary with gas costs and route liquidity: Ethereum bridge guidance.
- Extra steps: Check whether the route requires a claim or another transaction on the destination chain. The route’s displayed instructions are more relevant than a general timing estimate.
- Trust and risk: Bridge routes involve assumptions and risks beyond speed, including smart-contract, user-error, underlying-chain and bridge-operator risks, as outlined in Ethereum.org’s bridge guidance.
If your transfer is taking longer than expected
- Open the transaction status in the bridge or app that initiated the transfer, and follow its instructions rather than starting a second transfer.
- Check whether the source transaction is still awaiting Ethereum finality or whether the destination step is pending.
- If the app indicates that a claim or finalization is needed, use that app to complete it. Wormhole notes that some transfers can only be finalized by the originating app that reserved that right; its Portal FAQ explains this case.
