Latino-led community organizations are helping entrepreneurs through more than advice: some provide places to sell, shared retail space, educational events and networking. Three examples reported by the Associated Press—in San Francisco, Arizona and Massachusetts—show distinct approaches, not a single model adopted by Latino nonprofits generally.
How the shop-based approach works
A storefront can give small businesses a place to meet customers without each entrepreneur having to open a separate shop. Pairing retail space with events or business education can also connect vendors to peers and practical guidance. The examples below vary in who runs the program and how entrepreneurs take part; the AP report does not provide comparable budgets, lease prices or business-survival data, so it cannot establish which model has the greatest impact.

Three local models
| Organization and location | Who runs it | How entrepreneurs participate | Other support reported |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mission Lotería, San Francisco | Nonprofit | Local entrepreneurs and artists sell goods in a brick-and-mortar space; the organization also promotes local businesses. | Community events. Founder Luis Quiroz said the nonprofit received a $50,000 city storefront opportunity grant, which went quickly toward rebuilds. That is one organization’s reported grant, not a typical funding amount. |
| Amor Collective, Arizona | Storefront connected to Empowering Latina Leaders in Arizona (ELLA), a nonprofit | More than 35 entrepreneurs had signed one-year leases by the AP report’s publication on October 10, 2026. | Monthly meetings with guest speakers on topics including public relations and banking; meetings were made Zoom-friendly after some participants raised concerns about attending in person because family members had been detained by ICE. |
| LIDER, North Central Massachusetts | Regional chamber of commerce initiative | Networking and educational opportunities rather than a reported shared retail or lease arrangement. | Some events and materials are in Spanish. The chamber launched LIDER—the Latino Initiative for Development of Entrepreneurship and Resources—in July 2026. |
Mission Lotería gives vendors a place to build visibility
After seven years promoting Mission District businesses, the nonprofit opened a shop where Latino entrepreneurs and artists can sell their work, alongside community events. The organization takes its name from the traditional Mexican lotería game and has locally themed cards representing Mission District businesses.

Artist Yesi Chavez stocked greeting cards, magnets and “Trader Jose’s” mini totes. She said shoppers later recognized her merchandise at pop-ups, describing a visibility benefit; the AP did not quantify any effect on sales. Quiroz captured the risk of establishing a physical space this way: “What’s the economics term? High risk, high reward,” he said.

Amor Collective combines retail with recurring education
Stephanie Vasquez established ELLA about a decade before the AP report, then began monthly pop-up markets for Latina entrepreneurs. She later opened Amor Collective as a permanent storefront in Peoria; it moved to downtown Phoenix in August 2026. More than 35 entrepreneurs had signed one-year leases by the report’s publication date and were invited to monthly meetings with guest speakers.
Vasquez described the shared space as a way to lower individual risk: “An incubator space for business owners to come together, mitigate risk – so now their risk is so low that they’re able to be bold and they’re able to really play in their businesses,” she said. The Zoom-friendly option addressed a specific concern raised by some participants; it should not be assumed that every business program offers the same accommodation.

LIDER adds a chamber-based route
The North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce launched LIDER in July 2026 to offer Latino entrepreneurs networking and education. Some events and materials are in Spanish. Chamber president and CEO Roy Nascimento described the regional context: “We’ve seen for many years now a growing trend of businesses that are being formed or led by Latinos here in the region,” he said. He also said, “Our mission is to advance the economy of North Central Massachusetts.”
What these examples do—and do not—show
These organizations take different routes: direct selling space, leases paired with monthly education, and chamber-led networking. That variety matters for entrepreneurs considering support: a storefront may provide customer exposure, while workshops or networking can connect owners to information and peers without a reported retail lease.

The AP feature is a set of reported local examples, not a comparative study. It does not establish operating costs, audited finances, sales effects, business survival rates or whether the models can be replicated elsewhere. Program details and locations can also change, so prospective participants should confirm current terms directly with the organization.

The AP cited U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data showing that in the second quarter of 2026, Hispanic or Latina women working full-time had median usual weekly earnings of $902, or 79.0% of the $1,142 median for White women. These are quarterly averages, not seasonally adjusted; they measure weekly earnings among full-time workers, not business ownership, and do not explain the causes of the difference. The BLS published the figures on July 21, 2026 (BLS earnings release; second-quarter 2026 tables).

Pew Research Center reported in September 2026 that 18% of U.S. Latino adults said the American Dream was out of reach for them, while 27% said it does not exist. The findings draw on Pew’s National Survey of Latinos, conducted October 6–16, 2025; they describe respondents’ views, not the effect of any particular business program (Pew Research Center analysis).
