How did John Textor make his money?
The public account of Textor’s wealth is a record of business ventures, investments and company valuations—not a verified statement of his personal earnings. Many details below come from Textor’s own biography, which is useful for the chronology but is not an independent audit of his wealth. A company valuation or sale price does not show how much an individual shareholder received or retained.
Technology investments and early ventures
Textor’s biography says he left investment banking in the early 1990s and founded Wyndcrest Holdings, a private holding company focused on technology opportunities in entertainment, telecommunications and the internet. It describes Wyndcrest investments and operating roles as an early foundation of his career. The same biography identifies him as a co-founder and large shareholder of VirtualBank, an internet banking startup that became a diversified financial-services company, but does not establish his personal proceeds from it. Art Technology Group and BabyUniverse
Textor’s biography says Wyndcrest invested $2.4 million in Art Technology Group (ATG) and distributed the investment to limited partners at a $550 million valuation in early 2000. Those figures describe an investment and a valuation, not Textor’s personal payout.

For BabyUniverse, the biography says Textor invested $300,000 in 2001, grew annual revenue from $1 million to $40 million and sold the business for roughly $90 million in October 2007. Digital Domain and fuboTV
According to the biography, Textor and partners bought visual-effects company Digital Domain for $30 million in 2005. It says the business reached a $450 million New York Stock Exchange valuation in spring 2012. The biography also says Textor received $8.5 million in financial damages after disputes surrounding the company’s restructuring. A valuation and a damages award are different kinds of figures; neither, on its own, establishes his net profit from the venture.

Textor’s biography says Facebank acquired fuboTV in April 2020 and changed its own name to fuboTV in August of that year. It reports that fuboTV later reached a peak market valuation above $8 billion. That is a peak valuation for the company, not a measure of Textor’s personal wealth. John Textor’s biography
What did football ownership add to the story?
Football became a later investment platform rather than the starting point of Textor’s business career. In December 2022, Eagle Football announced it had acquired a controlling stake in Lyon, with outside investment from Ares Management, Iconic Sports and Elmwood Partners. The announcement described Eagle Football’s existing interests in Crystal Palace, Botafogo and RWDM Molenbeek. The consortium structure matters when interpreting club-related figures: the value of a club or stake is not automatically an individual owner’s money. In July 2025, BBC Sport reported that Woody Johnson had purchased Eagle Football’s 43% Crystal Palace stake in a deal believed to be close to £190 million. What is known about the Iconic Sports court order?
In July 2026, ge.globo reported that an English Commercial Court ordered Textor to pay Iconic Sports $99.6 million. The case arose from a 2022 investment and a disputed contractual repurchase commitment. Textor disputed the ruling and said he would continue his defense. What is the latest Derby County takeover update?
BBC Sport reported on 10 August 2026 that Turki Alalshikh withdrew his proposed takeover of Derby County. The report cited the time required for ratification as a factor and said the assessment process includes consideration of financial resources and source of wealth. It does not identify Textor as a prospective buyer or connect him to Alalshikh’s withdrawal. Derby is therefore a separate takeover story, not an explanation for Textor’s business history or wealth.
