Who actually bought Sheffield Wednesday?
On 10 March 2026, Sheffield Wednesday’s joint administrators named Arise Capital Partners as preferred bidder. They said the consortium had provided a substantial deposit and evidence of funds. Its offer was below the amount needed to pay creditors 25p in the pound, but it was the strongest proposal then available.
On 2 May 2026, the English Football League confirmed that the asset-transfer agreement with Arise had concluded and Sheffield Wednesday had left administration. The administrators also confirmed completion and the agreed wage and transfer parameters.

What happened to the club’s points and spending restrictions?
The EFL said it would not impose a 15-point deduction for the club’s exit from administration. It also said Sheffield Wednesday would remain subject to a budget restriction for the next two seasons and could sign players under an agreed business plan. The waiver of a points deduction therefore did not mean the club was free of financial controls.
