HPE shares rose 22.3% in September 2026, measured from the August 31 closing price of $52.24 to the September 30 close of $63.89. The month brought strong quarterly results and an improved outlook, followed by an upbeat networking forecast—but those company announcements provide context, not proof of what caused the entire share-price gain.
How the 22.3% gain is calculated
The figure uses the last closing price before September as its starting point: $52.24 on August 31, 2026. HPE closed at $63.89 on September 30. The price-only calculation is ($63.89 ÷ $52.24) − 1, or approximately 22.3%.
This is a change in share price, not a total return: it does not include dividends. Starting instead from the September 1 close of $50.87 produces a different percentage because it uses a different baseline. Historical closes show the month’s price movement, but not why investors bought or sold shares. Historical price series

| Business or measure | HPE-reported result |
|---|---|
| Total revenue | $12.2 billion, up 34% year over year |
| Cloud & AI revenue | $9.0 billion, up 25.4% year over year |
| Networking revenue | $2.9 billion, up 74.9% year over year |
| Free cash flow | $1.0 billion |
| Cash flow from operations | $1.6 billion |
These are figures reported by HPE for the quarter; they are not, by themselves, evidence that the results caused the September share-price increase. CEO Antonio Neri said, “AI is becoming a multi-year growth driver for HPE, and our differentiated portfolio positions us to capture that opportunity at scale.” HPE’s September 2 results release
Dividend and planned shareholder returns
HPE announced a quarterly dividend of $0.1425 per share, payable on or about October 16 to shareholders of record on September 17. The company also said it planned to return at least 75% of fourth-quarter free cash flow to shareholders. These are separate from the price-only calculation above; the planned cash-flow return is not a promise of a particular share-price outcome. HPE’s September 2 results release

What HPE said about networking on September 30
At its Networking Investor Day on September 30, HPE said it expected to gain share in Data Center Networking, Routing, and Campus & Branch. It also raised its fiscal 2027 Networking segment revenue-growth outlook to between the high teens and low 20s percent.
That range is management’s forward-looking outlook, not growth already achieved or a guarantee. It followed the company’s reported 74.9% year-over-year Networking revenue growth in the fiscal third quarter, but the two figures describe different things: a historical quarterly result and an expectation for fiscal 2027. Networking executive Rami Rahim said, “AI is reshaping the technology stack, making the network more strategic and driving significant new demand from enterprises and service providers.” HPE’s September 30 Networking Investor Day release

What the September news can—and cannot—explain
The month’s results and networking outlook help explain the business developments investors could assess during September. They do not establish that either announcement caused the full 22.3% gain. A daily price series records where the stock traded, not investor motivation, and the available information does not verify a specific announcement as the cause of the September 11 move.
The more defensible interpretation is that HPE had two visible sources of positive business context during the month: strong reported growth across Cloud & AI and Networking, and a more optimistic longer-term Networking outlook. The available evidence does not isolate their contribution to the share-price change or account for every factor behind it.
