The approach is built around local service and execution—not a stated company-wide growth target. Helena’s current public materials continue to emphasize that solution-provider model, but do not publish a current growth rate or target.
What Helena’s growth strategy means
In a March 6, 2023 interview, then-described President and CEO Eric Cowling framed growth as deeper customer penetration in Helena’s existing service area. “I don’t worry about our footprint. It’s just getting more customers within that footprint,” he said. He added that reaching more customers requires people and equipment, and that speed matters because growers plant faster than they used to. Source: Successful Farming / Helena Careers, March 6, 2023.
The strategy is not simply to sell more fertilizer, seed or crop-protection products. Cowling described Helena’s evolution from selling products to offering solutions, with knowledgeable staff and services layered around inputs. Customer service, in his account, includes timely delivery, following up after a sale and helping growers assess weed or pest outcomes.
This is a dated executive account, not a newly announced 2026 plan. Helena’s current company and digital-agronomy pages still describe a wide mix of products, consultation, application, precision technology and data services, supporting the view that solutions remain part of its public positioning. Those pages do not establish current financial results, a company-wide growth target or independently validated business outcomes.

Helena’s current company overview reports more than 6,000 employees and more than 500 locations nationwide. These are company-reported counts, not figures identified there as independently audited; they indicate the scale of the network Helena says it operates, not how much it has grown in a particular period. Why local service matters to the model
Cowling said Helena aims for systems that can be managed consistently across geographies while tailoring the actual offer to local farming conditions. He illustrated the difference with Northeast Kansas and Garden City: the needs of growers can vary substantially even within one state. In practice, the value of the model depends on whether a local operation has the people, equipment and relevant services a grower needs.
Helena’s public location finder can help a grower check whether the company has a nearby operation. Find a Helena location. A location alone does not show which services or products are available there, so customers should confirm those details locally.

How AGRIntelligence fits in
Helena calls its proprietary digital-agronomy platform AGRIntelligence. The company describes it as combining agronomic principles, field-data collection, software and expert analysis to produce recommendations tailored to a farm, field or acre. It says growers can use the platform to track performance and inform agronomic, business and climate-related decisions. Source: Helena Agri-Enterprises, Digital Agronomy.
Helena reports more than 25 years of strategic investment in digital tools and says millions of acres are managed through AGRIntelligence. Both are company-reported descriptions; the cited page gives no precise acreage total or independent comparative performance results. Source: Helena Agri-Enterprises, accessed October 8, 2026.

In the 2023 interview, Cowling argued that more data could make crop decisions more prescriptive. He compared a tailored recommendation to advice from a doctor, while emphasizing that useful crop decisions require understanding the details of the data and the field problem. That is his explanation of the opportunity, not independent evidence that a platform recommendation improves yields or profitability.

The model depends on more than demand for inputs. A deeper service relationship requires staff, equipment, product availability and the capacity to deliver or apply products at the right time. In the 2023 interview, Cowling described supply and logistics challenges involving raw materials, fuel, fertilizer, ocean containers and transportation. Those comments document constraints he discussed at the time; they should not be read as a statement that the same shortages persist today.
Best Value

- [VERSATILE PLANT FOOD]: Works as a plant fertilizer for lawns, gardens, fruit trees, shrubs, crops, and ornamental plants, making it a reliable option for homeowners, landscapers, and growers
- [EASY GRANULAR APPLICATION]: Uniform granules spread easily with broadcast and drop spreaders, allowing consistent coverage and precise fertilizer application across lawns and garden areas
- [ECONOMICAL 50 LB BAG]: Large 50 lb bag provides excellent coverage and value, making it a cost-effective fertilizer for lawns, farms, landscaping, and garden maintenance
Cowling also said Helena’s custom-application business had doubled or tripled “in some cases.” The interview does not give a company-wide baseline, a precise measurement period or independent verification, so that observation should not be treated as a company-wide growth statistic.
How to assess Helena as a provider
For a grower comparing Helena with another distributor or service provider, the useful question is whether the local offer fits the farm—not whether the company’s stated footprint is large. Compare these points directly with local representatives:
- Local access: Is there a nearby operation with staff who know the relevant crops, soils and growing conditions?
- Service depth: Does the local team provide consultation, delivery, custom application and follow-up, or primarily sell inputs?
- Digital recommendations: What field data are collected, who interprets them, and how are recommendations tailored to the farm or field?
- Supply and timing: Can the provider supply suitable products and services when they are needed? Availability and terms should be confirmed for the specific location and season.
- Financing or insurance: Cowling mentioned financing and insurance programs in 2023, but that interview does not establish current terms. Ask the local provider what is available and review the applicable terms.
What the public evidence does not establish
The cited company pages and interview do not state Helena’s current revenue, market share, year-over-year growth rate, acquisition plan or quantified company-wide growth target. They also do not provide independent trial data showing AGRIntelligence’s effect on yields, costs or farm profitability. Helena’s public positioning supports describing its strategy as a service- and solutions-oriented model; it does not support treating the model’s results as independently proven.
