What Harry Kane’s sponsorship involved
Kane had played for Leyton Orient on loan in 2011, making his senior debut there and scoring five goals in 18 appearances, according to BBC Sport. In May 2020, he sponsored the front of the club’s shirts for the 2020–21 season and donated the space to causes rather than using it to advertise a business.
- The home shirt thanked frontline workers and raised money for the local NHS trust.
- The away shirt featured Haven House Children’s Hospice.
- The third shirt featured mental health charity Mind.
Kane explained that the sponsorship was a way to give back: “I was born and brought up only at a couple of miles from Orient’s stadium and I’m really happy to have the opportunity to give back to the club that gave me my first professional start.” BBC Sport quoted him on 14 May 2020.
How the arrangement could benefit the club and charities
The financial benefit had several distinct parts. Kane paid Leyton Orient an undisclosed fee for the sponsorship. Separately, club officials said replica-shirt sales had risen sharply, bringing in additional merchandise income. The club also said 10% of proceeds from each replica shirt went to the cause featured on its front. That charity share should not be confused with the sponsorship fee or the club’s own sales income.
In an interview with the Evening Standard on 14 May 2020, Leyton Orient chief executive Danny Macklin described shirt revenue as important to the club: “Our shirt sales have gone through the roof and it’s vital income for our football club and it’s only aided by Harry’s generosity and support.” He also said the partnership provided “much-needed revenue” and an opportunity for Kane to thank the club.

Haven House said 10% of each relevant shirt sale went directly to the hospice. It also reported that families supported by the hospice had opportunities to attend matchdays, and that a bucket collection at the last match of a season raised more than £1,000. Those are the charity’s reported benefits, not an independent assessment of the partnership’s total impact. Haven House published its account on 27 June 2022.
What is known—and not known—about the financial impact
The available reporting establishes that Leyton Orient received a sponsorship payment and that Macklin said shirt sales had surged enough for the club to place an additional order. It does not give the fee, the number of shirts sold, total sales revenue, or the club’s net profit from the arrangement. “Gone through the roof” is Macklin’s description of the sales response, not an audited calculation of the increase.

That means the story supports a clear account of the income mechanisms, but not a precise estimate of how much Kane’s sponsorship ultimately added to the club’s finances. The 10% charity allocation also means that not all shirt-sale proceeds belonged to the club.

The partnership continued, but the beneficiaries changed
The arrangement lasted three seasons. Haven House said it was the only charity selected for all three years through 2022. The causes on the shirts were not unchanged throughout: Tommy Club and a thank-you message to the NHS were among earlier beneficiaries, and Shout appeared on the front in 2022–23. BBC Sport reported the third-season sponsorship in 2022.

In June 2022, Kane said: “I am thrilled to continue the incredible partnership with Haven House, who are located close to where I grew up.” Haven House also quoted Leyton Orient head of commercial Josh Stephens: “We are incredibly fortunate that Harry continues to support the O’s as it enables us to continue a partnership we can all be proud of.”
These reports describe a historic sponsorship, not a current offer or an active 2026 charity arrangement. They do not establish that buying a Leyton Orient shirt today would benefit the charities.
