He and his father developed a turmeric-based blend that became The Turmeric Co., launched in 2018. In July 2025, drinks company AG Barr acquired a 50.1% stake in its parent company, Innate-Essence Limited, for £16.7 million in total consideration. That was a company transaction—not evidence of Robson-Kanu’s personal payout or proof of his net worth.
He started building the business before leaving football
Robson-Kanu’s entrepreneurship did not begin only after his football career ended. The Turmeric Co. launched in 2018, when he was still an active player, and he was building the business while playing for West Brom. He left the club in 2021. City A.M. reported in May 2021 that the brand had tens of thousands of customers at the time; that is a dated description, not a current customer count. (City A.M., May 2021; The Standard, June 2020)
Robson-Kanu is also known as Thomas. West Brom’s interview explains that “Hal” is short for Henry, one of his middle names. In that interview, he described how the product idea grew out of his own experience. (West Bromwich Albion, 2019)
How The Turmeric Co. began
A family blend became a product
In his account to West Brom, Robson-Kanu traced his interest in the ingredients to serious injuries as a teenager, ongoing pain and side effects he associated with painkillers. He said he began looking into ingredients including turmeric, ginger, pomegranate and watermelon, and that his father helped develop a blend. This is the founder’s account of his motivation and experience, not clinical evidence that the blend treated an injury.

From personal use to a business
Robson-Kanu said he first used the blend himself and shared it with teammates. After trying a turmeric shot he disliked, he decided to develop his blend for sale. Recalling that decision, he said: “I made a decision then to develop this blend that I had used and take it to market. The Turmeric Co was born.” He told West Brom that the business had launched “at the beginning of last year,” referring to 2018 in the 2019 interview. (West Bromwich Albion, 2019)
What the 2025 deal says—and what it does not
AG Barr’s 2025/26 interim results presentation says that in July 2025 it acquired 50.1% of Innate-Essence Limited for £16.7 million in total consideration, including £2.0 million of contingent consideration. The £16.7 million is the stated consideration for a 50.1% company stake; it is not a disclosed payment to Robson-Kanu. The figures do not establish what he personally received, what other shareholders received, or the founder’s current wealth. No reliable personal net-worth figure or exact personal sale proceeds are established by the cited sources, so describing him as a millionaire based on this deal alone would go beyond the evidence.
How the brand makes money
The business sells physical turmeric shots. AG Barr’s current brand page lists Raw Turmeric Original, Raw Turmeric & Ginger, Raw Turmeric & Beetroot, Raw Turmeric & Ashwagandha, Raw Turmeric & XTRA Ginger, and Raw Turmeric & Pro-Collagen. For Raw Turmeric Original, the page lists watermelon, turmeric root, pineapple, lemon, black-pepper mix, magnesium and vitamin C. The company’s public product range helps explain the commercial path from a family blend to a consumer brand. The cited transaction materials do not disclose The Turmeric Co.’s standalone revenue, profit, or valuation, so the deal amount should not be treated as a measure of the brand’s individual performance.
