To sell an NFT on OpenSea, connect the wallet that actually owns it, open the item, and choose List item (or List for sale) to set a fixed price. If a buyer has already made an offer, you can choose Accept offer instead. Review the currency, OpenSea fee, creator earnings, estimated proceeds and gas before approving the wallet request. A listing is only an offer to sell—the NFT stays in your wallet until a buyer completes the purchase or you accept an offer.
Start at https://opensea.io/ by typing the address yourself or using a verified bookmark. Never give a website or supposed support agent your seed phrase or private key.
What “selling an NFT” means on OpenSea
These actions are different:
- Listing: publishing an asking price that a buyer may accept by purchasing the NFT.
- Accepting an offer: completing a sale at a buyer’s proposed amount and currency.
- Transferring: sending the NFT to another wallet without a sale.
- Minting: creating a new NFT, which is separate from selling one you already own.
The blockchain records ownership. You must control the wallet address holding the token, even if several wallets are linked to one OpenSea account. OpenSea’s June 2026 documentation says an account can link up to ten EVM and Solana wallets, but the selected wallet still must be the owner. See OpenSea’s wallet-login guide.
Before you start
- Correct wallet: have access to the wallet containing the NFT (MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, Phantom or another compatible wallet).
- Supported chain: confirm the NFT’s blockchain and token standard are supported for NFT trading. OpenSea supports many networks, but its current compatibility page says Solana is supported for token swaps, not NFTs at this time. Check the current blockchain list.
- Gas funds: keep the network’s native token available. That may be ETH, an applicable MATIC/POL asset, AVAX, RON or another chain-specific token—not automatically ETH.
- Item details: verify the collection, token ID and owner on the item page and, when needed, its blockchain explorer.
- Price plan: compare the floor, traits and recent completed sales, then account for fees, creator earnings, gas and volatility.
- Security: blockchain approvals and transactions can be expensive or difficult to reverse. Read every wallet prompt.
Connect the wallet that owns the NFT
- Go to https://opensea.io/.
- Select Connect wallet in the upper-right corner.
- Choose your wallet provider and approve the connection in the wallet.
- Open your profile and confirm that the NFT appears. If it does not, compare the connected address with the owner address shown on the item’s blockchain record, then switch to the wallet that owns it.
Do not enter a recovery phrase into OpenSea or any support form. OpenSea will not ask you to send money to “unlock” a sale or repair a failed transaction.

How to list an NFT for a fixed price
Button placement can differ between OpenSea’s Collector and Pro modes and may change as the interface is updated. Look for the current List item, List for sale or equivalent sell control.
From your profile
- Open your profile and locate the NFT.
- In Collector mode, hover over the item and select List item. In Pro mode, select the item and use the listing control in the bottom action bar.
- Enter the asking price, choose the currency and set the listing duration.
- Review the displayed proceeds, OpenSea fee, creator earnings and any gas requirement.
- Approve the collection or token transaction, or sign the requested message, in your wallet.
From the item page
- Open the NFT’s item page and switch to Sell mode if necessary.
- Select List for sale.
- Set the price, currency and duration, then inspect estimated net proceeds.
- Confirm the wallet request only after checking the collection, token, price and contract.
From a collection page
- Open the collection and switch the page to Sell mode.
- Select the NFT and choose List item.
- Complete the pricing and wallet-confirmation steps.
OpenSea documents all three entry points and allows bulk listing of multiple NFTs when they are from the same collection and chain. Listings currently can run from 15 minutes minimum to six months maximum. A reserve or private listing can restrict the buyer to a specified person, wallet address or ENS name where available. “Set price to floor,” “trait floor” and “adjust for fees” are references and estimates, not guarantees of a sale or value. Details are in OpenSea’s selling instructions.
How to accept an existing offer
- Open the NFT’s item page or your profile and view active offers.
- Select an offer to inspect its amount, currency, expiration and estimated proceeds.
- Choose Accept offer.
- Read the wallet transaction, including gas and the receiving currency, then confirm.
An offer may be denominated in WETH or another token rather than ETH. Verify the actual token and its value; an amount displayed in a different currency is not interchangeable without conversion risk. Accepting an offer normally requires a seller-paid blockchain transaction, while the buyer generally pays the gas for purchasing a fixed-price listing. An offer can expire or be canceled before you accept it. See OpenSea’s gas-payer guidance.
OpenSea fees, creator earnings and gas
OpenSea’s fee documentation dated May 12, 2026 says its typical NFT-sale marketplace fee is 1%. Primary-drop NFTs typically carry a 10% fee, which is not the normal secondary-market rate. Private listings typically show a 0% OpenSea fee at that time. Fees can change or be waived, so use the amount shown in your transaction review.

| Cost or action | Who usually pays | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| OpenSea marketplace fee | Reflected in the sale economics | Typically 1% for NFT sales according to the May 12, 2026 fee page; verify at checkout. |
| Creator earnings | Deducted from sale economics when applicable | Optional or enforced depending on the collection and contract. |
| First collection approval | Seller | May require a one-time approval transaction and gas. |
| Fixed-price purchase | Buyer | The buyer generally pays purchase gas. |
| Accepting an offer | Seller | Acceptance executes a blockchain transaction and usually requires gas. |
| Canceling a listing | Seller | Requires an on-chain cancellation and may require gas. |
| Lowering a price | Varies | Price reductions may be gas-free for ERC-721 listings; ERC-1155 rules can differ. |
Gas is paid to blockchain validators, not to OpenSea. Its amount depends on chain, congestion, wallet and transaction type. A later fixed-price listing in an already-approved collection may not require another approval transaction, but “selling is free” is not a safe blanket assumption. Failed transactions can still consume non-refundable gas. Read OpenSea’s gas explanation.
Creator earnings are not always guaranteed royalties
OpenSea uses the term creator earnings. They may be optional or enforced. Enforced payments depend on compatible contract standards and marketplace implementation, including ERC-721-C or ERC-1155-C-compatible contracts and Seaport conditions. Only the collection owner can configure the setting; an ordinary owner cannot change it for a collection they did not create. Details are in OpenSea’s creator-earnings documentation.
How to choose a realistic price
- Check the collection’s current floor—the lowest active listing—not a guaranteed market value.
- Compare the NFT’s traits with similar items and, where available, the trait floor.
- Review recent completed sales, not only unsold asking prices or screenshots.
- Match comparisons by blockchain and currency.
- Subtract the OpenSea fee, creator earnings and likely gas to estimate what you will actually receive.
- Choose between speed and price: a shorter listing tests demand; a longer one gives buyers more time but can become stale.
Market prices can move while a listing is active. Recheck orders before accepting an offer, especially when the offer uses WETH or another volatile token.
Lower the price or cancel a listing
Lowering the price
Open the NFT, select List for sale, and adjust the listing. OpenSea says reductions may be gas-free for ERC-721 NFTs, while ERC-1155 treatment can differ. Confirm the updated amount and currency in your wallet and on the item page.

Canceling
- Open the NFT and select Cancel listing.
- Review the cancellation transaction and gas estimate.
- Approve it in your wallet and wait for on-chain confirmation.
Cancellation withdraws the transfer authorization recorded for that order; it can cost gas. Cancel stale listings so an old price does not remain fillable after the NFT’s value changes. If you cannot access OpenSea, its help page mentions https://revoke.cash/ as a possible third-party approval-revocation tool, but OpenSea does not guarantee it. Verify the site carefully and understand that granting approval again can make an unexpired order fillable. See the cancellation guide.
If the NFT will not list or sell
The NFT does not appear
- Reconnect and verify the wallet address; multiple linked wallets can show different holdings.
- Check the chain, token ID and owner on a blockchain explorer.
- Confirm that the chain and NFT standard are currently supported.
- Allow for indexing delays and check whether the collection or item is hidden, flagged or restricted.
“Insufficient funds” appears
- Confirm you hold the chain’s native gas token, not merely the sale currency.
- Check that the funds are on the same network as the NFT.
- Leave a reserve for approval, offer acceptance or cancellation transactions.
- Never send funds to someone claiming to be support.
A transaction fails
- Check whether the first transaction actually completed before submitting another.
- Reconnect the wallet and select the correct network.
- Retry later if congestion is high, after rereading the transaction details.
- Consider approval, contract restrictions, an existing order conflict or a flagged item as possible causes.
Do not trust a buyer’s screenshot saying the purchase failed. Verify status in your wallet and on the relevant blockchain explorer.
Scams and wallet safety
Warning: OpenSea will not ask you to send money to OpenSea or a private wallet to complete a sale, release proceeds or fix a failed transaction.
- Ignore unsolicited “buyers” who send links, QR codes or urgent instructions.
- Use only the address you typed or a verified bookmark; look for the correct domain before connecting.
- Never share a seed phrase, private key or wallet backup.
- Confirm the collection, token ID, price, currency, recipient and contract in every signature.
- Consider a separate wallet for valuable holdings when interacting with unfamiliar contracts.
What to verify after the sale
- Open the item’s Activity tab to confirm the sale, transfer and new owner.
- Check that the NFT left the expected wallet and that payment arrived in the correct wallet and currency.
- Use the blockchain explorer if OpenSea’s status is delayed; item pages show the network, token ID and contract link. See OpenSea’s item-page guide.
- Save the sale date, proceeds, fees, wallet address and transaction hash.
Tax treatment varies by country and, in the United States, by state and personal circumstances. Keep complete records and ask a qualified tax professional how the sale applies to you.

Frequently asked questions
Can I sell an NFT without owning it?
No. The wallet connected to the sale must control the NFT and authorize the transaction or listing.
Do I need ETH to sell?
You need the native gas token for the NFT’s blockchain when a transaction requires gas. That may be ETH, AVAX, RON or another asset; check the network rather than assuming ETH.
Does listing always cost money?
Not always. A first collection approval may require gas, while later listings can be gas-free in some cases. Accepting offers and canceling listings generally require seller-paid transactions.
What is the difference between ETH and WETH?
ETH is the network’s native asset; WETH is a tokenized version used by many marketplace contracts. An offer in WETH is not the same as an offer in ETH until you account for conversion and fees.

Can I sell an NFT minted elsewhere?
Often, but not universally. The chain, token standard, contract behavior, collection restrictions and OpenSea support determine whether it can be listed.
Can I sell from the OpenSea mobile app?
Use the current sell controls in the app if they are available for your wallet, chain and item. Labels and feature availability can differ from the web experience; review the same price, currency, fees and wallet prompts.
What if an offer is about to expire?
Check its expiration, currency and net proceeds immediately before accepting. An offer may be canceled or expire before your transaction confirms.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long can an OpenSea listing last?
OpenSea currently permits listing durations from 15 minutes to six months.
Why is my NFT missing from my OpenSea profile?
The most common cause is a different wallet being connected. Compare the connected address with the blockchain owner, then check chain support, indexing and collection restrictions.
Who pays gas when an NFT sells?
The buyer generally pays gas for a fixed-price purchase. The seller generally pays gas to accept an offer or cancel a listing; approval and other actions can also require seller gas.
The Bottom Line
Connect the wallet that owns the NFT, verify the chain and item, then choose a fixed-price listing or accept a genuine offer only after checking currency, fees, creator earnings and gas. Confirm every wallet prompt yourself, and never send upfront money to someone claiming to fix a sale.
