Facebook Marketplace does not provide a dependable, standalone people-search tool for sellers. The practical route is to open one of the person’s active listings and select their name. That opens the Marketplace-facing seller profile, where Facebook may show ratings, reviews, other listings, mutual friends, and limited account information.
Find the profile from one of the seller’s listings
- Open Facebook and select Marketplace.
- Open an item listed by the person.
- Under the item details, select or click the seller’s name.
- Review the seller profile that Facebook opens.
On a computer, the path is Facebook Feed → Marketplace → open an item → click the seller’s name. In the Facebook app, it is Menu → Marketplace → open the listing → tap the seller’s name.
Facebook’s documented instructions focus on reaching a seller through a listing, rather than searching for a seller directly. If you already have the listing link, open it while signed in to Facebook and select the seller’s name from the item page.
If Marketplace is missing from the Facebook app
- Tap Menu.
- Tap Marketplace.
- If it is not shown, tap See more and look again.
Marketplace may not be available to every account. Facebook lists possible reasons including age restrictions, a new or inactive account, policy violations, and use of an additional Facebook profile rather than the main profile. App versions, regions, and temporary Facebook errors can also change what you see.

Can you search for a seller by name?
Usually, you should not depend on the Marketplace search box to find a person by name. Facebook’s current help instructions describe opening a seller profile from that seller’s listing, not a general seller-name search. Name searches can return a message such as “No listings found within 5 miles” even when the person has listings.
Use one of these alternatives:
- Ask the seller to send the listing link. This is the fastest and least ambiguous option.
- Search for the item instead of the person. Try the listing title, category, brand, model, and the seller’s approximate location.
- Check an old Marketplace conversation. An existing message thread may still contain the listing or a link to the seller’s Marketplace profile.
- Search your Facebook notifications or saved items. These may preserve the listing if you previously interacted with it.
None of these methods is guaranteed. A listing may have been sold, deleted, expired, hidden, or removed by Facebook. Facebook can also have display or search problems that make an active seller appear to have no listings.
What the seller profile may show
| Information | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Name and profile picture | Usually visible as part of the Marketplace seller identity. |
| Ratings and reviews | May appear when the seller has enough ratings and the feature is available in your region and platform. |
| Other listings | Active Marketplace listings may be shown, but sold, expired, hidden, or unavailable items will not necessarily appear. |
| Marketplace activity | Facebook may provide a limited summary of the person’s activity as a seller. |
| Mutual friends | May be displayed when Facebook makes that connection available. |
| Account age | In some cases, Facebook shows when the account was created. |
Seller ratings become public after the seller receives at least five ratings. Treat them as one signal, not proof that a transaction is safe: Facebook does not verify that every person leaving a Marketplace review actually bought from or used the seller.
Why the profile or listings may be blank
A missing profile does not necessarily mean the person is fraudulent or has closed their account. Common explanations include:

- Extra loud, 75+dB ringer
- The listing was sold, deleted, expired, or removed.
- The seller currently has no active listings in your view or location.
- The seller lost or restricted Marketplace access.
- You are using Facebook Lite, a mobile browser, or a platform with fewer Marketplace features.
- Facebook is experiencing a temporary Marketplace bug.
- The listing belongs to an additional Facebook profile that is not available for Marketplace in the same way.
Shared seller-profile links can also load an icon but show no listings or profile information. That can be a Facebook display problem, particularly if the original listing has become unavailable.
Marketplace profile versus regular Facebook profile
The Marketplace seller profile is not a promise that you can inspect the person’s ordinary Facebook account. It is a Marketplace-facing view of information Facebook chooses to display about the seller. It does not give you access to private posts, a private friends list, or other restricted personal information.
Do not try to bypass Facebook’s privacy controls by using third-party “seller lookup” services, scraped databases, or tools asking for your Facebook password. They can expose your account and may return inaccurate or stolen information.
Use the profile as part of a scam check
If you are considering sending money, use the seller page as a screening step rather than a guarantee. Check whether the listing details, seller name, location, photos, and message history make sense together. Be cautious when:

- Hands free - dialing - answering and ending a call
- No button to press to activate
- Always on and always ready to call
- Dial with your voice only - answer with your voice only - end a call with your voice only
- Great for those with mobility and vision difficulties
- The account has no meaningful history or suddenly lists many expensive items.
- The price is far below comparable local listings.
- The seller pressures you to pay a deposit or move immediately to another messaging app.
- They request gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or payment outside a method with buyer protection.
- They refuse a reasonable inspection or change the pickup location at the last minute.
For an in-person purchase, arrange a public meeting, tell someone where you are going, and inspect the item before paying. Never send money merely because a seller has ratings or mutual friends; both can be misleading or insufficient protection.
Quickest answer
Open Facebook → Marketplace, open any active listing from that person, and tap or click the seller’s name. If you do not have a listing, ask the person for its link or search using the item and location. Facebook does not offer a consistently reliable seller-name search, and a missing profile can result from an expired listing, account restrictions, privacy limits, or a Marketplace bug.

Can I search Facebook Marketplace by a seller’s name?
Facebook does not provide a consistently reliable general seller-name search. Search for the person’s item, category, and location, check an old Marketplace message, or ask the seller to send the listing link.
Why can’t I see a seller’s other listings?
The listings may be sold, expired, deleted, hidden, or unavailable in your location. The seller may also have lost Marketplace access, or Facebook may be experiencing a temporary display problem.
Are Marketplace seller ratings proof that a seller is trustworthy?
No. Ratings are useful context, but they are not a guarantee. Facebook says it does not verify that every reviewer actually purchased from or used the seller. Inspect items before paying and avoid irreversible payment methods.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: You normally find a Facebook Marketplace seller profile through one of the seller’s listings—not by searching the seller’s name. Open the listing, select the seller’s name, and use the resulting information only as one part of your scam and payment check.
