Discover Airlines’ planned Ocean Blue cabin gives Lufthansa Group’s leisure airline a higher-specification long-haul product while supporting the Group’s stated priorities of maintaining premium positioning and expanding leisure travel from Frankfurt and Munich. It is a distinct Discover cabin program—not a form of Lufthansa Allegris—and its first refitted A330-300 is planned to enter service in April 2027.
What Discover Airlines announced for Ocean Blue
On 28 January 2026, Discover Airlines announced a planned refit of its full fleet of 16 Airbus A330-300s. The first aircraft is scheduled to fly with Ocean Blue in April 2027, with the remaining refits proceeding gradually and the fleet program planned to finish by mid-2028. Those are target dates, not completed installations; the airline’s fleet-level timetable does not guarantee Ocean Blue on a particular flight. Discover Airlines’ announcement describes the project as the largest investment in its history.
Each refitted aircraft is planned to have 288 seats: 227 in Economy, 31 in Premium Economy, and 30 in Business Class. Discover’s CEO Ulrich Lindner described the investment as “a three-digit million euro sum.” That is the company’s approximate stated investment scale, not a precise audited figure. The announcement sets out cabin specifications, but does not report measured changes in passenger satisfaction, revenue, operating costs, or willingness to pay.

Discover says all classes will receive 4K touchscreens and plans free Starlink high-speed internet across its long-haul fleet. These are announced product plans; the airline has not yet put Ocean Blue into service. Lufthansa Group’s cabin description also outlines the planned class features.

Why the cabin fits Lufthansa Group’s leisure strategy
Lufthansa Group identifies customer focus and maintaining premium positioning as strategic priorities. It also plans to expand leisure routes from Frankfurt and Munich, and says Discover supplements and strengthens its tourism portfolio. Ocean Blue can be understood as a cabin investment that brings a more fully specified long-haul experience to that leisure operation, rather than as a change to Discover’s role in the Group.
The Group’s 2025 annual report provides scale: Discover had 30 aircraft at year-end 2025, and Lufthansa Group said it planned to grow the fleet to 40 by 2028, partly through four A350s. The planned Ocean Blue refit applies to Discover’s 16 A330-300s; it is one element of the airline’s fleet and product plans, not a refit of every Discover aircraft.

Ocean Blue is separate from Lufthansa Allegris
Ocean Blue and Allegris are separate cabin programs in the official material. Lufthansa Group’s 2025 annual report records 10 Allegris-equipped A350-900s in Munich and four Allegris Boeing 787-9s in Frankfurt at year-end 2025. Those aircraft and figures concern Lufthansa Airlines’ Allegris program, not Discover’s Ocean Blue refit. The sources do not say that Ocean Blue uses Allegris seats or is technically derived from Allegris.
For passengers comparing premium products, useful points of comparison include seat and bed design, privacy, aisle access, screens and device connectivity, charging, included internet, rollout timing, and whether the cabin serves a leisure airline or a network carrier’s broader premium offer. The announced specifications alone do not establish that one product is superior to another.

What travelers should check before booking or upgrading
Because the refit is scheduled across 2027 and 2028, travelers should check the aircraft assigned to their individual flight closer to departure. The announced schedule is a fleet plan; it does not promise Ocean Blue on a specific route or travel date.
Discover’s 9 February 2026 upgrade announcement says travelers can check availability online up to 60 hours before departure and, if an upgrade is offered, bid within a specified range. Discover says it informs customers whether a bid is accepted at least 48 hours before scheduled departure. Long-haul upgrade options can include Economy to Premium Economy or Business Class, and Premium Economy to Business Class. An upgrade bid does not guarantee acceptance or a particular seat.
