The clearest public explanation is property. Mark Stott founded Select Property in 2004 and co-founded the student-accommodation brand Vita Student in 2012. Sales of property portfolios and the growth of the wider Vita Group show the scale of those businesses, but their transaction values are not evidence of how much Stott personally received or what he is worth.
How did Mark Stott build his businesses?
Select Property: sales, investment and development
Select Property says Stott founded the company in 2004 as a global sales and investment partner. Its business history describes working with developers and selling property opportunities to international investors. The group later expanded into developing and operating residential brands, including Vita Student, Affinity Living and CitySuites.

Vita Student: purpose-built accommodation and operations
Select Property’s corporate history says Stott and Chris Oakes founded Vita Student in 2012. The business combined purpose-built student residences with a consumer-facing brand, sales and ongoing operational management. That model could create value through developing or assembling properties, selling investments or portfolios, and continuing to operate residences after a sale.
What do the property transactions show?
Company announcements provide examples of large institutional transactions. They establish the value of the assets sold, not the amount that went to Stott personally.

How much of Vita Group does Stott control?
Companies House records Mark David Stott as holding more than 50% but less than 75% of Vita Group Holdings’ shares, and at least 75% of its voting rights. This indicates substantial ownership and voting control of that holding company; it does not by itself establish the value of his stake, his liquid assets, or his share of any particular transaction.
