Nor do the sources reviewed confirm a renewed Textor bid for Sheffield Wednesday: the English Football League reported on 2 May 2026 that the club’s administrators had agreed to transfer its assets to a consortium led by Arise Capital Partners.
How did John Textor get rich?
The available evidence does not answer that question conclusively. It documents Textor’s control of Eagle Football Holdings and the company’s football investments, but it does not establish the original source of his wealth, how much capital he personally invested, what proceeds he personally received, or his current net worth.
Companies House lists John Charles Textor as an active person with significant control of Eagle Football Holdings Limited. The record says he owns at least 75% of its shares and voting rights and can appoint or remove directors. That establishes control of the company, not the value of Textor’s personal assets or the origin of his fortune. Companies House’s control record.
What do the Crystal Palace deals tell us?
BBC Sport reported that Eagle Football Holdings bought a stake in Crystal Palace in 2021 for around £90 million. In June 2025, the club confirmed a legally binding contract for New York Jets owner Woody Johnson to buy Eagle Football’s 43% stake. BBC reported the sale completed in July 2025 and put its believed value close to £190 million. These are company-level transaction figures—not proof that Textor personally paid £90 million or received £190 million.

The distinction matters: a sale price for a company’s holding is not automatically the amount its controlling shareholder receives. The sources do not disclose Textor’s personal share of any realized proceeds or establish a profit figure. BBC Sport’s reporting on the Palace stake.
Is the £6.8 billion wealth estimate about Textor?
No. BBC Sport cited a 2024 Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimate of about £6.8 billion ($9.18 billion) for Woody Johnson, the buyer of Eagle Football’s Palace stake. That figure belongs to Johnson, not Textor, and should not be used as an estimate of Textor’s net worth. BBC Sport’s report.

What was Textor’s stated football strategy?
In a 29 February 2024 BBC Sport interview, Textor described Crystal Palace as his first investment and discussed a multi-club approach built around collaboration, scouting and data-assisted player identification. He said, “I don’t see acquisitions as the business model.” That is his description of the strategy, not independent evidence that the model produced profits or explains how he first became wealthy. Is John Textor buying Sheffield Wednesday?
The documented ownership agreement does not name Textor. On 2 May 2026, the EFL reported that Sheffield Wednesday’s administrators had concluded an agreement to transfer the club’s assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC, a consortium led by David Storch alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The reviewed sources do not verify the renewed takeover talk referenced in the headline or confirm that Textor made a later offer. Without a dated, direct report or official statement, it would be inaccurate to describe him as bidding, negotiating or taking over. In any later report, distinguish an expression of interest from a formal offer, exclusivity, regulatory approval and a completed transfer.
