The available figures provide context, not a like-for-like verdict: Cardiff City advertised adult tickets from £309, excluding booking fees, while a 2024 study calculated a Championship average of £496.92.
Why Derby’s cheapest price and league position are unclear
Derby County announced its 2024/25 season tickets on 23 February 2024, but the numerical price grid on the club’s official pages is embedded as an image and is not available in the accessible page text. Without a verifiable figure and its ticket conditions, naming Derby’s lowest price or ranking it against other Championship clubs would be guesswork. Derby County’s announcement
“Cheapest” also depends on which ticket is being compared. Derby said prices varied by age, seat location and a longevity discount, and age was calculated as of 1 August 2024. Its first sales phase ran until 4pm on 26 April 2024 and included the longevity discount; the club later said the second phase brought a further increase. The tickets covered all 23 home league matches at Pride Park Stadium. Derby County’s second-phase notice
Derby described the longevity discount as saving 25–35% against buying on a match-by-match basis. That range is the club’s own comparison, not an independently audited calculation. The club’s owner, David Clowes, said in the February announcement: “The club will never take the loyalty and devotion of our supporters for granted and, in an ideal world, we would have preferred a continued price freeze. However, that would be unsustainable in the present economic climate.”

What the available Championship figures show
| Figure | What it represents | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| £309 | Cardiff City’s official advertised starting price for an adult 2024/25 season ticket, based on Zone 4 | Booking fees were excluded. Cardiff said this worked out at less than £13.50 per match. It is a useful club-level reference, not Derby’s price. Cardiff City’s announcement |
| £496.92 | Gambling.com’s calculated average Championship season-ticket cost for 2024/25 | The study, published 14 August 2024, reported a 10.1% rise from the previous season. It gathered cheapest and most expensive prices from club communications, local news or fan publications and aimed to focus on general admission, while acknowledging that ticket categories could blur. This is not an official EFL figure or a uniform adult-price benchmark. The study and its methodology |
Neither reference establishes whether Derby’s lowest price was above or below the average. The Cardiff figure is a specifically defined adult starting price, while the study’s average combines prices gathered across clubs under a methodology that notes category differences. Without Derby’s amount, sales phase, age band, seat basis and fee treatment, subtracting one figure from another would create a misleading comparison.

To compare prices meaningfully, the Derby figure would need to match the comparator on the relevant conditions:

- Crafted from a unique 40 singles tri-blend fabric, offering a lightweight, ultra-soft feel
- Classic crew neck design with side-seam construction ensures both comfort and a flattering silhouette
- Lighter colors are semi-sheer
- Compare the same sales phase, rather than mixing Derby’s early price with another club’s later price.
- Use adult standard-admission prices against adult standard-admission prices; report concession prices separately.
- Align booking-fee treatment, renewal or general-sale eligibility, and seat location or zone.
- Identify whether a loyalty or early-purchase discount is included, and whether restricted-view or family-area seats define the lowest price.
Until Derby’s original numerical grid or another dependable record supplies those details, the supportable conclusion is limited: the club raised prices for 2024/25 after five years without an increase, sold tickets in phases, and offered a longevity discount, but the exact cheapest price and its league ranking remain unverified.
