The often-cited $200 million figure, however, is an estimate of her net worth—not a verified tally of what she earned. Moore’s career spans early television, major 1990s films, work behind the camera, time away from Hollywood’s center, and a prominent return with The Substance.
What does the $200 million figure represent?
Celebrity Net Worth currently estimates Moore’s net worth at $200 million. That figure is a third-party estimate, not a financial disclosure or audited account. The site attributes her wealth to acting, producing, a reported divorce settlement and real estate, but does not provide an independently verifiable breakdown. Celebrity Net Worth’s estimate of Demi Moore’s net worth should therefore be read as an estimate, not a confirmed amount she has “made.”
Net worth and career earnings measure different things. Net worth is an estimate of assets minus liabilities at a point in time; career earnings would involve adding income over many years, before accounting for taxes, representation costs, spending, investments and other changes in wealth. The available reporting does not establish Moore’s lifetime gross income or the value of her current assets and liabilities.
The salary that made a public milestone
In 1996, Moore reportedly secured $12.5 million for Striptease. TIME says the deal made her the highest-paid woman in Hollywood at the time, following the success of Ghost and Indecent Proposal. TIME’s 2025 profile and interview also notes that her pay still lagged behind that of her then-husband, Bruce Willis.

CBS News also reports the $12.5 million figure and says other women in Hollywood demanded and obtained larger paychecks after Moore’s deal. CBS News’ 2024 interview with Moore presents it as a visible salary milestone—not evidence that the gender pay gap was closed. The reported contract salary is a specific figure for one film; it cannot establish how much of Moore’s present wealth came from that project.
How Moore’s career moved in and out of the spotlight
Early television and film work
Moore’s public career began well before Striptease. In a 2024 career timeline, she recalled that being cast in General Hospital gave her a regular job and paycheck. Vanity Fair’s career timeline traces her path from early acting to films including Ghost and, later, The Substance.
1990s stardom and a step back from industry prominence
Success in films such as Ghost and Indecent Proposal helped make Moore a major star in the 1990s. Later, after a string of flops, she stepped out of the spotlight while raising her three children with Willis in Hailey, Idaho, according to Variety’s account of her career and The Substance. That describes a period away from Hollywood’s center, not a confirmed permanent retirement from acting.
The Substance and renewed attention
The Substance brought Moore renewed attention and major awards recognition. In 2025, she won a Golden Globe and received her first Academy Award nomination, then lost the Oscar to Mikey Madison. At the TIME100 Summit, Moore said the result showed that “there’s more work to be done” on the issue. TIME’s account of Moore’s remarks at the summit covers her response.

What the figures do—and do not—show
| Figure | What it describes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| $12.5 million | Moore’s reported salary for Striptease (1996), described by TIME and CBS News as a record-setting milestone for a woman in Hollywood at the time. | Her lifetime income, the film’s total compensation to her, or the amount of that salary she retained. |
| $200 million | Celebrity Net Worth’s current estimate of Moore’s net worth. | An audited balance sheet, confirmed career earnings, or a verified breakdown by film, settlement, property or other source. |
The two numbers answer different questions: one is a reported salary for a particular film, while the other is an estimate of overall net worth. Neither provides enough information to calculate the share of Moore’s present wealth attributable to any specific career phase or asset.

Moore has spoken publicly about the personal pressure she placed on her appearance. In her September 2024 CBS News interview, she said, “I put so much pressure on myself.” TIME’s 2025 interview also captured her reflection after the Oscar loss: “The physical, human part that has ego, of course, has disappointment.” These statements offer her perspective; they do not by themselves establish how appearance expectations affected her finances or career choices.
Rank #4
For a first-person account of her life and career, Moore’s 2019 memoir is her memoir, Inside Out. Variety reported that Moore gave director Coralie Fargeat a copy before being offered the role in The Substance, as a way to convey her experience with her body and the value she had placed on it.
