What the $70 million figure actually describes
Bloomberg Businessweek used the phrase “$70 Million-a-Year Profit Machine” in its May 4, 2016, profile of Angel. The article attributed the roughly $70 million annual figure to people familiar with his finances and described it as money generated by his ventures—not as a net-worth calculation or a public financial filing. Angel’s official biography repeats the annual characterization while attributing it to the Businessweek story; it does not provide a newer accounting. The profile attributed the business’s income to several activities, but did not provide current or comparable dollar totals for each one:
- Television: programming and foreign rights.
- Live performances: touring versions of Angel’s act.
- Merchandise: including magic kits, which Angel chose to manufacture and sell himself rather than license to a toy company.
- Sponsorships: brand deals associated with the business.
Businessweek reported that Angel had sold more than $35 million in magic kits since 2005. That is a cumulative sales figure reported in 2016, not annual profit or a measure of what he personally kept after costs.

What was reported about his home and cars
The Serenity estate
Businessweek described Serenity, Angel’s Mediterranean-style estate in the desert foothills outside Las Vegas, as a 25,000-square-foot property valued at $22 million in 2016. The cars he showed in 2007
In a 2007 Larry King Live interview, Angel showed a 2007 extended Rolls-Royce Phantom, a 2007 Lamborghini Murciélago, a 2007 Cadillac Escalade, a Viper and a Dodge truck. He said he used the truck for desert outings and to haul production equipment. Angel said he did not have much time to drive and described the vehicles as a childhood dream and “one of the fringe benefits of being successful.” He also put the purchases in perspective: “although this is all great stuff, it doesn’t replace the most important things, and that is being happy and loved, two things you can’t buy.” These are his remarks in the 2007 interview, not a breakdown of his current spending. How Angel’s early career was financed
Luxury assets are only part of the financial picture in the available reporting. The Los Angeles Times reported that Angel’s mother mortgaged the family home to help finance his 2001 off-Broadway production of Mindfreak. Businessweek later put the mortgage at $360,000 and reported Angel’s account that, after a 14-month run of 600 performances, he repaid it and had more than $1 million banked. What Angel’s foundation says about his giving
Angel’s official charity page says he has personally funded the foundation’s operations since it began in 2008. The organization focuses on childhood cancer, a cause Angel links to his son Johnny Crisstopher’s leukemia diagnosis. Its published figures are the foundation’s own reports, not independent audits. - The foundation says its 2016 HELP gala raised more than $1 million.
- It reports that Angel personally donated $1 million to a December 2022 event, which raised more than $315,000 from other donors and auctions.
- The foundation says Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada and Cure 4 the Kids Foundation each received $250,000 from that event’s proceeds; remaining proceeds were to be distributed through future grants.
- It says Angel arranged with US Foods during the COVID crisis to donate more than 50,000 meals to families who had lost jobs.
The charity page says donations to the foundation go to childhood cancer research, treatment and a cure without deductions for administration or expenses. That is the foundation’s stated policy, rather than an independently verified accounting. The page also reproduces Angel’s appeal: “Every two minutes a child is diagnosed with pediatric cancer.
