Coventry City’s reported wage costs were £26.5 million in 2024/25, up from £23.4 million in 2023/24. That establishes the club’s recent wage-bill scale, but it does not establish a league position: the latest available Championship-wide totals do not provide a readable club-by-club comparison.
Coventry City’s latest wage figures
Coventry City Football Club Limited’s latest located accounts are for the year ended 31 May 2025. Companies House lists the accounts as filed on 27 February 2026. PSRwatch’s extraction of those accounts reports £26.5 million in wages for 2024/25, compared with £23.4 million for 2023/24—an increase of £3.1 million, or about 13% based on the rounded figures. Companies House filing history; PSRwatch Coventry City accounts analysis.
These are account-based wage costs, not a published total for first-team player salaries alone. The extraction also reports Coventry revenue of £34.2 million in 2024/25 and £29.3 million in 2023/24. Dividing the reported wage figures by revenue gives approximate wages-to-revenue ratios of 77.5% and 79.9%, respectively. These are calculations from rounded extracted figures, not separately reported measures. PSRwatch Coventry City accounts analysis.
How Coventry compares with Championship-wide figures
The clearest like-period comparison is for 2023/24. Deloitte reported aggregate Championship wage costs of £892 million against aggregate revenue of £958 million, an overall wages-to-revenue ratio of 93%. Coventry’s extracted accounts for the same period show £23.4 million in wages and £29.3 million in revenue, or approximately 79.9% on the same simple calculation. The league figure is an aggregate across clubs, not an average club’s ratio; it cannot show where Coventry ranked. For 2024/25, Deloitte reports Championship-wide wage costs of £927 million and revenue of £942 million. It also says operating losses rose 5% to £436 million. Those totals give useful league context, but the available review text does not provide a readable Coventry-by-Coventry wage table. Coventry’s £26.5 million cannot therefore be translated into a precise league rank from these figures. Deloitte’s 2026 Annual Review of Football Finance: Football League Clubs.

What counts as a wage bill
Deloitte’s wage-cost definition covers all employees, including players, technical staff and administrative staff. It includes wages, salaries, signing-on fees, bonuses, termination payments, social security contributions and other employee benefit expenses. As a result, the reported total is broader than the playing squad’s salaries and may not match figures labelled as player wages elsewhere. Deloitte’s 2025 Annual Review of Football Finance.

Why an exact league ranking is not established
- No readable club-by-club comparator: Deloitte’s 2024/25 review provides league totals, but the available text does not show Coventry’s precise position against other clubs.
- Different accounting scopes can matter: Coventry’s figures are an extraction from Coventry City Football Club Limited’s accounts. PSRwatch cautions that group structures may mean a filed entity does not capture every football-related cost or revenue stream.
- Reported figures are rounded and mapped: PSRwatch describes its account figures as rounded and involving mapping, so calculations based on them are approximate.
- League totals are not a ranking: An aggregate wage bill or league-wide wages-to-revenue ratio gives context, but not the distribution of spending between individual clubs.
For a defensible ranking, each club’s wage costs would need to be compared for the same accounting period, using a consistent definition and equivalent entity scope. The available figures support a comparison of Coventry’s scale and revenue context, not a claim that it is the Championship’s highest-, lowest- or any specific-ranked wage spender.
