The biggest semiconductor vendor held 11.7% of worldwide industry revenue in 2024, while the ten largest together accounted for about 59%. That is a concentrated top tier, but not a market controlled by one company: 41.2% of revenue fell outside the top ten. Those figures describe Gartner’s broad vendor-revenue market—not chip manufacturing capacity or every individual chip segment.
How much of the semiconductor market do the biggest companies hold?
Gartner’s 2024 worldwide vendor-revenue estimate totaled $655.882 billion. NVIDIA ranked first with $76.692 billion, or 11.7%; Samsung Electronics followed at 10.0%, and Intel at 7.6%. No company had anything close to a majority of this broad market.
The top ten’s displayed company shares add to 58.6%. Gartner’s table assigns 41.2% to “Others,” which implies 58.8% for the top ten. Because the published percentages are rounded, the defensible summary is that the ten largest held about 59% of worldwide vendor revenue in 2024. The remaining 41.2% shows that a substantial share belonged to companies outside that ranked group. Gartner’s April 2025 release provides the revenue table and analyst comments.
Who were the largest semiconductor vendors in 2024?
The ranking below is by Gartner’s worldwide semiconductor vendor revenue for 2024. It is not a ranking by factories, manufacturing capacity, or units shipped.

NVIDIA moved from third place in 2023 to first in 2024, while Intel moved from first to third. Gartner VP Analyst Gaurav Gupta attributed movement among the top ten partly to demand for AI infrastructure and a 73.4% increase in memory revenue. Gupta also said NVIDIA’s rise reflected demand for its discrete GPUs for data-center AI workloads. These are Gartner’s explanations of the ranking and revenue changes, not proof that any single factor caused them.
Does TSMC dominate the whole chip market?
No. TSMC’s reported 65.3% share in 2024 applies to worldwide foundry services, a narrower market for contract chip manufacturing. It is not TSMC’s share of all semiconductor vendor revenue and should not be compared directly with NVIDIA’s 11.7% broad-market share as though the two percentages use the same denominator. Gartner’s public foundry-services release supports the 65.3% figure.
What does a semiconductor market-share figure actually measure?
“Market share” is meaningful only after defining the market and the measure. A figure might describe company revenue across the industry, a product category such as memory, foundry-service revenue, unit shipments, wafer capacity, or sales associated with companies headquartered in a particular country. Those measures answer different questions.
- All-industry vendor revenue: Gartner’s 2024 ranking compares reported company semiconductor revenue against its worldwide vendor-revenue total.
- Foundry-service revenue: TSMC’s 65.3% refers to the contract-manufacturing services market, not all chips sold.
- Headquarters-based sales: A company’s location of headquarters does not establish where its chips were designed, fabricated, assembled, or sold.
- Capacity or unit share: Revenue shares cannot be treated as measures of production volume or manufacturing capacity.
For another distinct lens, the Semiconductor Industry Association’s 2025 report excerpt says U.S.-headquartered semiconductor companies represented 50.4% of global sales revenue in 2024. That is a share attributed by company headquarters, not a measure of the portion of chips physically produced in the United States. The SIA 2025 Factbook excerpt says its estimates draw on WSTS, Gartner, Omdia, and SIA.

Why do published estimates differ?
A separate 2026 issuer-filed market overview reports $627.6 billion in global semiconductor sales in 2024 and says the top ten participants accounted for approximately 67%. That presentation differs from Gartner’s $655.882 billion vendor-revenue estimate and roughly 59% top-ten share. The figures should not be combined or silently reconciled: different definitions, estimation methods, or data presentations can produce different totals and shares. The $627.6 billion and 67% figures are reported in an HKEX-filed market overview, which cites WSTS and SIA rather than serving as their original dataset.
When comparing market-share numbers, check five things: the market boundary, the measure (revenue, units, capacity, or shipments), the geography, the period, and the source’s methodology. Without that information, two percentages that both say “semiconductor market share” may not be comparable.
