Azur Games said it passed 8 billion cumulative installs across its games on 1 December 2023. Co-founder Dmitry Yaminsky attributed the milestone to an early move into hyper-casual games, internal expertise, experimentation, portfolio diversification and acquisitions. The figure represents installs, not 8 billion distinct players, and the explanation is the company co-founder’s account—not an independently verified causal analysis.
What the 8 billion figure means
Azur Games’ 1 December 2023 milestone announcement said its games had topped 8 billion installs. In a GamesBeat interview published the same day, Yaminsky noted that people may reinstall games, including when they change phones. The total should therefore be read as cumulative installs across the company’s portfolio, not a count of unique people.
The milestone is a company-reported figure; the available sources do not establish an independent audit. Nor do they provide a breakdown by title, genre, region or store, so the 8 billion total cannot show how many installs came from hyper-casual versus casual games.
How Azur’s co-founder explained the growth
Yaminsky described a combination of timing and organizational choices rather than a single hit or tactic. “First off, we tapped into the hyper-casual segment at just the right moment, dedicating substantial efforts to building and refining our internal expertise.” His explanation in the interview included:

- Entering hyper-casual early: He said Azur entered the segment at a favorable moment and invested in the know-how needed to develop and publish games in it.
- Experimenting and iterating: Yaminsky cited experimentation as part of the company’s approach. That is a description of its operating strategy, not a quantified account of how many experiments became successful games.
- Diversifying the portfolio: He said Azur prepared for the pandemic-era growth surge to pass by expanding beyond reliance on one segment.
- Acquiring projects: He said the company pursued projects and teams that seemed to fit its capabilities and had potential to perform and grow.
Yaminsky also pointed to the growth mobile games experienced during the pandemic era. These factors are his explanation for the company’s trajectory; the interview does not isolate their individual contributions to the install total.
What the acquisitions added
Two 2023 announcements illustrate the portfolio approach, while showing why “acquisition” needs precision: the deals concerned game assets or projects, not necessarily whole companies or teams.

The announcements show that acquisitions were one way to expand the games Azur operated. They do not establish that M&A alone produced—or accounts for any particular share of—the 8 billion installs.
Why Azur said its focus was shifting
In the 2023 interview, Yaminsky described a market where the volume of new game releases was growing faster than installs, spreading downloads across more titles and making new hits harder to launch. He also cited weaker eCPM and advertising effectiveness as challenges for hyper-casual games. Those are his interview-era observations, not a verified description of the market in 2026.

He said Azur was then putting more focus on casual and midcore projects, while continuing to develop acquired hyper-casual titles and support and improve existing games. “As to Azur Games, we’re definitely focusing more on casual and midcore projects right now, but our very foundation was in midcore development.” The phrase “right now” refers to the interview in 2023; it should not be taken as a precise statement of the company’s current genre mix.
Yaminsky also emphasized stronger visuals, more content and progression, performance optimization and long-term operation. Together, these point to a broader operating model than relying only on rapid hyper-casual prototyping: games may need ongoing improvement and support. The interview does not quantify the revenue or install impact of any of these practices.

Azur Games’ later company-reported figures
As of 8 October 2026, Azur Games’ About page says the company has surpassed 11 billion downloads. Its homepage lists 11B+ total installs and 275M+ monthly active users. These are current company-reported figures, not independently verified rankings; monthly active users and cumulative downloads are different measures. The sources do not reconcile exactly how the 2026 download figure relates to the 2023 install count.
A concrete example of the company’s operating infrastructure
Azur’s growth story also involves the systems needed to operate games at scale. An AWS case study published 16 July 2024 says Azur migrated 120 TB of active game telemetry to ClickHouse Cloud on AWS in early 2024. That is a vendor/customer case study, not an independent benchmark. Azur Lead Solution Architect Vladimir Rudev said, “At some point we understood that it just takes too much time and effort.” He described the result this way: “First, the overall system became simpler, faster, and more reliable.” The case study attributes those outcomes to the migration but does not provide an independently measured comparison.
