To pre-order a PlayStation 5, buy only from a retailer whose live listing explicitly says the specific model is available for preorder. Sony’s U.S. buying page currently links shoppers to retailers for the PS5 console, PS5 Digital Edition and PS5 Pro, but that page does not confirm an active preorder for the standard PS5. Check the listing, delivery terms and total at checkout before paying.
Where to look for a PS5 preorder
- Start with Sony’s PS5 buying page. It lists the console options and links to retailers, including PlayStation Direct. Treat those links as a starting point, not proof of current stock or preorder availability.
- Open the retailer listing for the exact model. Confirm that it says preorder and check the seller, whether the console is new or bundled, the expected delivery date and the checkout total. Availability and pricing can change; verify them again before placing the order.
- Use the store for your market. The terms for PlayStation Direct’s U.S. store require U.S. billing and shipping addresses and exclude PO boxes, U.S. territories and addresses outside the U.S. Other markets may have different retailers and terms.
Sony also offers a registration page for limited, invitation-based PS5 purchase opportunities in the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. Registration is not a reservation or guarantee of selection. An invitation can be used only within its stated window and while stock lasts.
Which PS5 model should you preorder?
Sony’s U.S. buying page identifies three current choices. Compare the format and listed storage alongside the specific bundle, seller, delivery estimate and final price.
| Model | Listed storage | Disc access |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 console | 1TB | Supports Blu-ray discs and digital downloads |
| PS5 Digital Edition | 825GB | No disc drive; plays a digital game collection |
| PS5 Pro | Not stated on the cited buying page | Not stated on the cited buying page |
These model names and storage figures are from Sony’s U.S. buying page, accessed October 8, 2026. The page does not establish current prices or stock counts. The vertical stand is sold separately, according to the same page.

How to place a preorder through PlayStation Direct
- Select a product that PlayStation Direct identifies as eligible for preorder.
- Add it to your cart and complete checkout.
- Keep the confirmation email and order reference for your records.
PlayStation Direct says preorder payment details can be modified up to seven days before the listed release date. Keep the payment method valid through the expected shipment. Sony’s support page says preorders generally ship the day before launch; this is typical timing, not a delivery guarantee. See PlayStation Direct support for order-management information.

- A product page or preorder button does not ensure the item will remain available. PlayStation Direct says availability may change without notice and orders are subject to availability.
- An order confirmation is not, by itself, acceptance of the order, under PlayStation Direct’s U.S. terms.
- Check the release date and delivery estimate on the live listing, then review the checkout total and seller before submitting payment.
- Do not assume an invitation, registration or retailer page guarantees access to a console; follow the specific terms and time window shown.
Retail listings, prices, inventory and invitation windows are volatile. The cited Sony pages were accessed October 8, 2026; confirm the current details directly with the retailer serving your market.
