Hugh Laurie had the highest documented per-episode rate among the House M.D. cast members covered by contemporaneous reporting: TVWeek reported in 2011 that he made more than US$400,000 per episode. The same report put Lisa Edelstein, Omar Epps, and Robert Sean Leonard at about US$175,000 each. These figures reflect a 2011 snapshot, not a complete ranking of the full cast across every season.
Reported House M.D. cast salaries per episode
The most comparable reported figures are from May 2011. TVWeek described the rates as current at that time; they should not be read as exact lifetime earnings or as rates for every episode of the series.

| Actor | Role | Reported rate per episode | Reporting date | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hugh Laurie | Dr. Gregory House | More than US$400,000 | 2011 | TVWeek reported this as Laurie’s rate at the time. Contemporaneous trade reporting |
| Lisa Edelstein | Dr. Lisa Cuddy | About US$175,000 | 2011 | TVWeek reported this rate; it also said Edelstein and two co-stars were asked to appear in fewer episodes and accept reductions as the production sought to cut costs. Contemporaneous trade reporting |
| Omar Epps | Dr. Eric Foreman | About US$175,000 | 2011 | TVWeek reported this rate; the report described the same request for fewer episodes and reduced pay affecting the three co-stars. Contemporaneous trade reporting |
| Robert Sean Leonard | Dr. James Wilson | About US$175,000 | 2011 | TVWeek reported this rate; the report described the same request for fewer episodes and reduced pay affecting the three co-stars. Contemporaneous trade reporting |
| Other cast members | Various | Not established in the contemporaneous reports cited here | Not stated | The available reporting does not establish a complete, comparable cast-wide ranking. |
Within this documented 2011 comparison, Laurie ranked above the three co-stars. Their reported rates were all approximate, so the evidence does not establish a precise order among Edelstein, Epps, and Leonard.
How Hugh Laurie’s reported rate changed over time
Laurie’s reported pay was not a single fixed figure across the series. Reuters, in a report published by ABC News in September 2008, said a 2006 increase had put his rate at US$250,000–US$300,000 per episode. The 2008 report said his salary was expected to rise to about US$400,000 per episode under a new pact with Universal Media Studios. Reuters reporting published by ABC News

| Reporting period | Laurie’s reported rate | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| 2006 increase, described in 2008 | US$250,000–US$300,000 per episode | Reuters’ 2008 report described this as the result of Laurie’s 2006 pay increase. |
| New pact expected in 2008 | About US$400,000 per episode | The rate was reported as an expected increase under the new pact, not as a retrospective rate for all seasons. |
| 2011 report | More than US$400,000 per episode | TVWeek reported this as Laurie’s rate at that time. |
A secondary salary roundup claims Laurie reached US$700,000 per episode in the final season, but it is not the contemporaneous reporting behind the figures above and does not provide a basis for treating that amount as confirmed. Secondary salary roundup

- The dates differ. Laurie’s 2006 and expected 2008 rates cannot be combined with co-star rates reported in 2011 as if they were a single-season payroll.
- Some figures are approximate or forward-looking. The reporting distinguishes “about” and “more than” from the expected 2008 increase.
- The evidence covers only some actors. The sources cited here do not establish comparable rates for every cast member.
- Per-episode pay is not a season total. Cast members did not necessarily appear in the same number of episodes, and the number of episodes worked is not established by these reported rates.
For those reasons, the best-supported answer is a dated comparison: Laurie was reported above US$400,000 per episode in 2011, while Edelstein, Epps, and Leonard were each reported at about US$175,000. That does not establish the full cast’s pay order or anyone’s total earnings.
