Important: This was a historical Amazon deal reported on May 5, 2025—not a currently verified September 2026 offer. MacRumors reported discounts of up to $479 on selected M4 MacBook Pro configurations, but prices changed quickly and at least one model reportedly sold out.
The largest discount applied to a specific 16-inch MacBook Pro with an M4 Max chip, 48GB of unified memory, and 1TB of storage. For most buyers, the much cheaper 14-inch M4 or M4 Pro models were more practical values.

How much did the base 14-inch model save?
The most accessible deal was the 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M4 chip, 16GB of unified memory, and a 512GB SSD. Its reported Amazon price was $1,372.02, down from a stated $1,599—a reported saving of $227.
This was a fundamentally different computer from the $3,520.11 model. The high-end version had a larger display, M4 Max graphics, three times the memory, and twice the storage. A larger dollar discount does not make it the better financial choice if you do not need that hardware.
Which configuration made the most sense?
Best value for most people: 14-inch M4
The base 14-inch M4 was the likely value pick for office work, web browsing, school, software development, photo editing, and moderate video work. Apple lists the base M4 with a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, and 120GB/s memory bandwidth. Its 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display has a 3024-by-1964 resolution and ProMotion refresh rates up to 120Hz.
Rank #2
- FAST RUNS IN THE FAMILY — The 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro or M5 Max chip brings next-generation speed and powerful on-device AI to personal, professional, and creative tasks. With all-day battery life, double the starting storage,* and a breathtaking Liquid Retina XDR display, it’s pro in every way.*
- BUCKLE UP — Along with a next-generation CPU, faster unified memory, and up to 2x faster SSD storage,* M5 Pro and M5 Max feature a more powerful GPU with a Neural Accelerator built into each core, delivering faster AI performance and on-device training capabilities. So you can blaze through demanding workloads at mind-bending speeds.
- BUILT FOR AI — Apple silicon, and every major component that powers it, is designed to run demanding on-device AI workloads like LLM inference and training. And Apple Intelligence helps you write, express yourself, and get things done effortlessly with groundbreaking privacy protections at every step.*
- ALL-DAY BATTERY LIFE — MacBook Pro delivers the same exceptional performance whether it’s running on battery or plugged in.*
- MACOS RUNS APPS FAST — All your go-to apps run lightning fast in macOS, including built-in apps like FaceTime and Messages. Plus, built-in virus protection and free software updates help keep your Mac running smoothly and securely.
Sixteen gigabytes of unified memory is adequate for many buyers, but memory is not upgradeable after purchase. Choose 24GB if you regularly run several development environments, creative applications, virtual machines, or large datasets.
Best professional-value candidate: 14-inch M4 Pro
The reported $1,695.88 14-inch M4 Pro model had a stated $303 discount and offered a stronger performance-and-price balance than the M4 Max systems for many professionals. It was better suited to large software projects, sustained multitasking, audio production, and demanding photo or video workflows.
However, the deal was short-lived. A MacRumors forum discussion indicated that this configuration later returned to $1,799, while the $3,520.11 model was already sold out. Forum comments are anecdotal, but they reinforce the warning that Amazon deal prices can disappear rapidly.

Who should consider M4 Max?
M4 Max is aimed at buyers whose workloads can use its additional GPU and memory capability: 3D rendering, high-resolution video production, complex graphics work, or large machine-learning and data workloads. It is difficult to justify the premium for ordinary productivity, light coding, or casual creative work based only on the size of the discount.

14-inch versus 16-inch MacBook Pro
Apple identifies the displays as approximately 14.2 and 16.2 inches diagonally. Both use Liquid Retina XDR panels with ProMotion refresh rates up to 120Hz. The 16-inch model provides more workspace and is a better fit for people who work directly on the laptop screen for long periods, while the 14-inch model is easier to carry and costs less.
- Choose 14-inch for commuting, travel, school, portability, and lower total cost.
- Choose 16-inch for a larger working canvas, heavier-duty configurations, and users who value screen space more than weight.
Battery performance varies by configuration and usage. For a specified 14-inch M4 configuration, Apple lists up to 24 hours of video streaming and up to 16 hours of wireless web use. Those are Apple test results, not guaranteed real-world runtimes.

What the M4 MacBook Pro offers
Depending on chip and size, the family includes MagSafe 3, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, a headphone jack, and Thunderbolt or USB-C ports. The exact Thunderbolt generation, display support, memory limits, and expansion capabilities depend on the configuration; check Apple’s 14-inch M4 Pro and M4 Max specifications and its 16-inch specifications before buying.
Apple Intelligence availability also depends on the operating-system version, language, and region, so it should not be treated as universally available in every market or software setup.

- Exact configuration: Confirm chip tier, CPU and GPU details, memory, SSD capacity, and screen size.
- Condition: Make sure the listing says new if that is what you expect; separate new, renewed, and refurbished products.
- Seller: Check whether the product is sold by Amazon, Apple, or a third-party marketplace seller.
- Warranty and returns: Confirm the applicable warranty, return window, and AppleCare eligibility.
- Keyboard layout: Verify that the machine has the U.S. keyboard or the regional layout you need.
- Checkout total: Recheck the price, tax, shipping, and delivery date at checkout.
- Reference price: Treat “$X off” as a comparison against the stated reference price, which may be Apple MSRP rather than the lowest recent street price.
Alternatives worth comparing
Apple Certified Refurbished
Apple says its certified-refurbished products undergo a refurbishment process and include a one-year limited warranty and 14-day return policy; AppleCare may also be available. See Apple’s 14-inch refurbished example and 16-inch refurbished example. Prices and inventory change, so indexed historical prices should not be assumed current.
A newer-generation MacBook Pro
Because M4 is an older generation by September 2026, compare any remaining M4 inventory with a newer MacBook Pro if the prices are close. A newer model may offer a longer useful buying horizon even when its nominal discount is smaller.
MacBook Air
For buyers who do not need the Pro display, ports, or sustained performance, a MacBook Air may provide better value. The lower price can be more meaningful than a large discount on an M4 Max MacBook Pro.
Bottom line
The May 5, 2025 deal was a legitimate reported discount, but its headline requires context. The maximum $479 saving applied to one expensive 16-inch M4 Max configuration, while the base 14-inch M4 was the more broadly useful value option at a reported $1,372.02. Do not treat any of these prices as live in September 2026 without checking a current listing, seller, condition, and final checkout total.
