The company says the capital will help it secure legacy applications and protect enterprise technology infrastructure. The announcement follows a separate $20 million commitment to an Open Source Sustainability Fund intended to support creators, maintainers, and projects that follow end-of-life practices.
What the $125 million investment is for
HeroDevs described the PSG investment as strategic growth capital for protecting legacy software and helping enterprises keep technology infrastructure secure and compliant. Album, an existing investor, also participated. The funding announcement does not disclose PSG’s ownership percentage, the company’s valuation, revenue, or profitability.
SecurityWeek independently reported that the round brought HeroDevs’ total raised to $133 million. That is an outlet-reported total, rather than a total stated by HeroDevs in its funding announcement.
How HeroDevs supports end-of-life software
Never-Ending Support
HeroDevs’ central commercial offering is Never-Ending Support (NES), ongoing security, stability, compatibility, and compliance support for deprecated or end-of-life open-source frameworks and packages. It offers organizations a bridge when upstream maintenance has ended but replacing the affected software cannot happen immediately.

That bridge is not the same as a permanent substitute for modernization. OpenJS Foundation describes HeroDevs as providing consulting and engineering to help customers migrate away from deprecated packages and modernize their technology stacks. Teams can use support while planning a migration, but should confirm the specific package coverage, patch process, compatibility commitments, support duration, compliance documentation, pricing, and deployment method before relying on a service.
Open-source sustainability funding
On June 23, 2025, HeroDevs announced a $20 million Open Source Sustainability Fund. The stated purpose is to support open-source creators, maintainers, and projects that follow end-of-life best practices. HeroDevs says it has donated more than $4 million to creators and projects since 2021, including more than $2 million in 2024. Those donation figures are company-reported.
The fund links the company’s commercial work to a broader ecosystem goal: incentivizing responsible maintenance and end-of-life practices, rather than leaving users and maintainers without a transition path when software support ends. The announcement does not establish eligibility criteria or how much of the fund has been distributed.
Where the funding fits in the open-source security picture
When a library or framework reaches end of life, its users may still depend on it in business-critical applications even after upstream fixes stop. That can leave security and compatibility work unresolved while an organization plans, funds, and executes a migration. NES is intended to provide continued support during that interval; migration services address the longer-term work of moving away from deprecated components.

HeroDevs has also described a joint solution with Mend.io for scanning and remediating vulnerabilities in deprecated open-source packages, connecting vulnerability detection with remediation. The OpenJS Foundation says HeroDevs contributes security, compliance, consulting, and modernization support. HeroDevs’ press-release archive lists other ecosystem activity, including OpenSSF, CISA’s Secure by Design pledge, Zend by Perforce for Drupal 7, ESLint, and Nuxt; an archive listing alone does not establish that each relationship remains active.

Funding announcements indicate capacity and stated priorities, but they do not establish whether a particular unsupported dependency is covered or whether a service meets a given organization’s requirements. Before choosing NES or another provider, compare:
- Coverage: the exact frameworks, package versions, and release lines supported.
- Security response: how vulnerabilities and CVEs are assessed, prioritized, and patched.
- Compatibility and duration: what compatibility is promised and for how long support continues.
- Compliance evidence: which documentation and assurances are available for audits or internal controls.
- Migration help: whether modernization services are available and how they relate to the support engagement.
- Commercial terms: pricing, deployment method, and any limits on the service.
- Upstream sustainability: whether and how the provider supports creators, maintainers, or projects.
Coverage, fund eligibility, and partnership status can change. Confirm current terms directly before making a procurement or security decision.
